God Has Nothing To Do With Our Poverty!

“Bo, you’re wrong. Poverty is a matter of fate…”

He came up to me right after I gave a talk on financial literacy. The man spoke to me with the gravity of a Supreme Court Justice, it scared me.

“Why do you say that, sir?” I asked.

“Because there are people who are born poor,” the man said, “And there are people who are born rich. That’s destiny. That’s the will of God.”

I winced. How could I tell him that I’ve been working for years (no, decades) with the poor—and this was the exact kind of distorted thinking that has trapped a lot of people in poverty. “God made me poor,” is an invisible placard written on the foreheads of many poor people I’ve met.

I told him, “To be born rich or poor is not a choice, that’s true. But to become rich or poor—that’s a choice that God leaves up to us.”

He looked at me as though I spoke in Swahili.

I wanted to explain myself but he wanted to ask me a very disturbing question…

God Leaves The Choice To Us

Whether To Be Rich Or Poor

“Bo, why are you teaching us to become rich?”

His tone of voice was sharp. Like he was asking me, “Why are you teaching us to murder people, burn their bodies, and eat their liver?”

He continued, “If you’re really a Christian, you should teach us to be content with where we are. Bo, aren’t you content with where you are?”

I laughed. “Oh, I’m very content.”

I never told this to him, but I’d like to tell you: Right now, if I choose to, I can stop working, deposit my money in a bank—and live on the interest. Sure, I have to simplify my lifestyle even further, but we’ll still be very comfortable.

With the interest I’ll earn from the bank, I can maintain my small house and simple car.

And yes, I can still bring out my wife for our weekly romantic dates.

And I can still bring my kids for our twice-a-year vacations.   No more Macau trips, that’s for sure. But Tagaytay would be just fine.

I can even pay for our homeowner’s association dues. (A whopping P120 a month! Yes, I live in a happy third class subdivision.)

But if I stop working and live on my interest, a few things will have to change…

Life Isn’t Just About You

Today, I send a number of poor children to school. That has to stop.

Today, I finance a few missionaries. That has to stop.

Today, I provide capital for livelihood projects for the poor. That has to stop.

Today, I finance my new ministry projects in its trial period. That has to stop.

This is the reason why I’ve chosen to grow, to expand, to increase, and to become richer because I want to bless the world more.

That’s why I work very hard today!

Here’s what I learned: (1) To be content and (2) to want to grow can co-exist in your heart.

That can only happen when love rules your heart.

        May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez

  1. You are SO right about this.

I was thinking of being a priest. But I am not sure. And I used to think that it’s the only way I can serve God. Until I came across your book, “How to find your one true Love”, it made me realize that God is bigger than what we think.

Anyway, as I go on with my life today, I continue to improve myself in all aspects, including financial stability. That is because, I really want to help the Youth Ministry in my parish financially. That is my drive.

  2. What we make of ourselves is indeed our choice. I think that many people have a decidedly negative view of wealth because they imagine that it can corrupt them or it can make them materialistic. That too I think is a choice. We can choose to make money our slaves or our master. It’s all really up to us.

Money is just an instrument, a means, to a greater goal and as long as you keep it that way and put God above everything else, then you’re still on the right track.

    God bless everyone.

  3. Thanks for the message bro. Bo. =)

Well, God alone judges the “motives of the heart”. I dont find it wrong if anyone wants to be rich —yes bro. Bo was correct, it’s one’s choice to be rich or poor— as long the motive is good and not selfish like what bro. Bo has been doing: sending poor kids to school, giving livelihood to poor people etc.

I myself I want to acquire wealth bec. I want to house the homeless of my beloved town Mabalacat, to teach and send street kids to school. You see, God sees what our heart desires and intends—there He blesses us. =)

Like bro. Bo, with God’s love and mercy, may our dreams come true. =)

    God bless us all! :)

  4. You are so right Bro. Bo! Your articles on financial freedom has inspired me very much. Thank you for being so unselfishly sharing it to the whole world!

I know that blessings will always follow your heart who cares so much for so many!!! :)

  5. Hi kuya Bo,

you are absolutely right! it motivates me to dream of becoming rich. though im not financially stable now but in my own little way i want to reach out to others. one step at a time. Thanks again kuya bo!

  6. hi bro. bo,

I wish you could enlighten me more about aiming and working to be rich without feeling guilty or afraid (to sin). i think its one of the things that hinders me, consciously and subconsciously, to want and achieve material wealth.

    thanks and God bless

  7. we make our own destiny… with God’s guidance of course.. just do things that will make you happy and everything will follow.. right? thank you for being such a blessing kuya bo… how do you stay inspired, happy and optimistic? i just wanna ask… ^_^….

  8. Keep on doing what you’re doing brother Bo! Don’t listen or get distracted to people who ask you silly questions like that. There’s so much that God has placed in your hands. Oh by the way, you can of course listen to them and answer them, we trust in God’s wisdom in you. You hit the nail right on its head with the reply you gave that man. God bless!

  9. I totally believed in you that being rich or poor is a choice. However, It doesn’t mean that if a person choose to be rich, he/she will surely be rich. There are factors that must support the decision to be rich- attitude, skills, focus, experience, skills, opportunities, commitment, prayers, financial literacy, etc.

  10. hai bo,
im grateful god let me read ur
    blog again
4 me 2 reflct on again

    …………
wethr ur rch or u por,
8 dosnt mean a thing to GOD

we strive hard to be rich
because we want to enjoy god-given pleasures
in a way that we can also be an instrument to
give comfort to our brothers and sisters in need

    if we’re rich,we share
    if we’re poor,we strive hard

    either way,
    one thing’s certain
that we both learn on the value of generosity and the value of persistence

thats what god wants us to have
    im pretty sure
    he’ll smile…

  11. Poverty mentality is the kind of thought that was transferred from generation to generation…to be content is a good thing and no big effort and pressure to but to become rich requires dream, passion and hard work. Which side you want to take? there is nothing impossible to a person who works hard and have faith in God who will increase your produce. Be not a chicken minded but be an eagle minded.

  12. Sometimes I get so frustrated when I receive news like this (poverty) about the Philippines. There’s little change despite all the work my entire family (including extended family) is doing for GK. Although just today I was reminded not to be distracted and to “Look where your Father is leading you and let Him do whatever it takes to get you there.”

The first time I receive the email I responded right away with my nationalistic view because of a recent experience and later with my individualistic view. But as I read the responses I saw a yardstick. One end is the poor and the other end is the rich. And depending on their position in the yardstick is their response. There are those who are poor and are still poor because of their control or outside of their control. There are those who are on their way to riches and sharing how they are doing it. And vice versa those going down and saying what not to do. There are those who are now rich and looking back to help others. There are those who are rich and never experienced how to be poor and so they are more concerned with character than material things. Some of these responses are also mixed with religious and political views. I ask myself what is the right answer. I say the right answer is this pool of data (responses). Now we know and what are we going to do about it.

There was a child’s birthday party. It was a happy occasion. Parents and children are all around enjoying themselves. As they sing happy birthday, the birthday cake was brought out and the birthday boy was about to make a wish and blow the candle. But suddenly, the cake fell to the ground. The person with the gift of leadership immediately delegated tasks to who will clean the mess, who will buy a new cake, who will comfort the child, who will lead and entertain the crowd etc. The person with the gift of service goes to take the broom and cleans. The person with the gift of giving goes out to buy a new cake. The person with the gift of counsel comforts the boy. The person with the gift of motivation lead the crowd etc. Guess how the party ended? Excellent!

I cannot judge the person who doesn’t recognize his PURPOSE because sometimes I myself am more concerned with the cut in my finger than the millions of people starving to death in Africa or Philippines for that matter.

  13. HI to all!

I just celebrated my 28th birthday! It was awesome, we had a one-week celebration. Not because we’re very rich, but because we want to have the celebration extended.

It was the first time, the first time, I was able to do that. To be more specific, it was the first time I was financially able to do that! I used to lay back and relax, that I’ll end up not empty-handed but with less.

I’d like to express how much I agree with you Bro. Bo. When we have more, the more we can share as well. The more we can share, the happier we become. It all goes back to us!

Wanting to be rich is not a sin. It’s desiring to be able to share more.
We cannot share things we don’t have.

It helps us to express more our love for those people we care much! = )

  14. you’re right bo! you inspired me more to share my blessings to others even in small things and in prayers. God is truly wonderful.. if we only let our decision be in His inspiration then loving others will be so easy as loving ourselves. gaining wealth may equate to materialism to anyone who would only think of themselves and forgetting to bless others.

  15. hi brother bo.. thanks for this inspiring article.. this surely inspired me..
    God Bless..

  16. Hehehe…That’s the problem with some people. They thought being rich is a heinous crime. What some don’t realize is that we can choose to be rich if we will allow ourselves to grow and aim for it. Dreams are free… why not live the dream as well?

  17. The word of God says “The blessing of the Lord maketh rich and He adds no sorrow to it” (Prov 10:22)
Once u know how to tap into the Kingdom of God, your well can NEVER run dry. Today I take in less money than i did last yr, yet my kingdom investments and tithes are higher this year, and my bank acct has never gone down!! It is all GOD! I discovered that I can NEVER be poor because He has given me ALL things that pertain to life and Godliness!! I give to God’s kingdom, I help traveling evangelists, I sow into different anointed ministries, I give sacrificial offerings ALL in faith of course. And of course i seek first the kingdom of God completely, to worship and to serve Him is my 1st and foremost ambition. i laugh when people try to explain why they dont tithe, and I say u dont want to rob God do you?? Noting we own is ours, God has entrusted it in our care, even when I become a millionaire, not one dime is mine! When you realize that, you’ll get rid of the entitlement mentality, and give freely to the things of God, and He’ll use that to bless you abundantly!

    Malachi 3: 10
“Bring all the tithes into the storehouse so there will be enough food in my Temple. If you do,” says the Lord of Heaven’s Armies, “I will open the windows of heaven for you. I will pour out a blessing so great you won’t have enough room to take it in! Try it! Put me to the test!”

My people suffer from a lack of knowledge…God doesnt make a person rich so they can just spend it on themselves, NO He does it so that they’ll use it to bring glory to His name here on earth!!

    Remain blessed everyone!

  18. “Every moment is a moment of choice”

    Happiness is a choice.

Starting today, i will choose to be happy and loving every moment of my life.

    Thank you ‘bo

  19. Dear Bro. Bo,

Thank you very much for a very inspiring article and for sharing your wisdom.

Let me share….”GOD gave us 2 gifts: one is “Choice” , the other, “Chance”…The Choice of a good life & the Chance to make it the best. So let’s live today to the fullest because tomorrow is not promised.”

May you continue to be a blessing to others. GOD bless.

  20. Wow! The reality that Contentment and the Desire to Expand our Borders really do co-exist. It’s just a matter of perspective. The morality of riches and poverty lies in the motive of the heart and the desire to be for God all that He wants us to be.

    I’m really inspired!

Could I request of information of our financial literacy seminars? I really would love to help others out by expanding my resources.

In the past, I was able to support some students go through with their seminary education, financed experimental projects for Church ministries, supported a few disciples/ampons at home and gave at will only living with the bare essentials of life like shelter, clothing and food.

But now I am married and with a child on the way and a change of ministry venue which means cutting my original income by a third; I had been struggling with my finances.

Nevetheless, God is faithful, so faithful that He had provided just enough for us to get through. But again it is not just about us . . . this article had inspired me to be proactive with my finaces that I may be able to expand the borders of my helping others. :-)

Thanks Bo for this inspiring article!

  21. Hi Bo,

Your experiences have inspired me to become a better person and share them with people around me.

Passiveness among the poor is one thing that we want to change. I work in a community development project and this particular trait is slowly being changed by the project. We have been slowly changing the way of thinking of the community that we work with by making them choose and take ownership of their lives-to strive more and find other ways of earning a decent living.

Thank you for sharing your experiences.

    Regards,

    Au

  22. Bro. Bo, you are not wrong… i pity that guy having a closed mindset about being rich. To reiterate, being rich or poor is a matter of choice… if you choose to be rich then you choose also to be a blessing to others - and that’s for me the definition of being rich.

    Thanks Bro. Bo. Godspeed. ü

  23. yes Bo the choice to be rich or to be poor is ours, it’s not of God but when you are in the community is being bound to be poor and lost you drive and insight to grow more spiritualy and financially then it is so hard to do so, the reality is so depressing and discouraging, i just wish that the situation is a bit elevated, talagang masakit sa loob, but anyway thanks to your inspiring thought people need it so much.

    more power,

    grace

  24. God who is our Father wants us His children to live an abundant life - in all areas. We can have everything - happiness, health and wealth. If I, who am a sinner want the very best for my children, why would God, who is Love, want us, His children to suffer want and lack? Why would God want us to be limited by lack of money?

    It does not make sense.

God wants only abundance and therefore, we should strive to live in abundance. Our life should be overflowing in abundance so we can bless everyone.

By some accounts, it is said that Abraham was a Billionaire by today’s standards. Solomon was probably even richer than Bill Gates. Even Jesus was a multi-millionaire.

So, despite the criticism you might have received Bo, continue preaching the Truth about the Abundant Love that God has for all of us.

  25. Being rich or poor is a mindset. You might be the riches man / woman in the world but if you don’t know how to use that blessing in the proper venue wherein more and more will be blessed by it, than its for naught such a waste….but even if you only have enough and yet you know how to use it to even share inspite of the little that you have than you will also realize that money / financial abundance has meaning when shared . . .

God’s Generosity is so huge that He had distributed it equally among the billion’s of people but how we tap on it is a Choice . . . we are stewards of His creation.

Our wealth is not just money but talent, time, love, commitment to share. And I believe that all of us have an equal distribution of the above thus there is no reason for us to be complacent and just meet our needs but also share with others.

Bringing God’s love to our neighbors is a true joy!

    Be happy in the Giving!

  26. Amen to that Bro. Bo!. Continue to open our hearts to great possibilities that God has set aside for His people whom He has called to be His Own.

    Thanks a lot!

  27. Amen to that Bro Bo! Thanks for continually showing us the great possibilities God has prepared for His people called to be His own.

  28. Hi Bro. Bo,
alam mo noon, bago ko narinig ang talk mo at nabasa ang book mo about how to become rich. . Eh kasi naman sarili ko lang pala iniisip ko. Pero ngayon isa na sa aking goal ang tumulong sa mahihirap para makaahon sa kahirapan, di nga pala masama yumaman. Salamat sa DIYOS !

  29. Dear Bro. Bo,

This is my first time to write here. I just can’t stop myself to express my feelings coz I was touched upon reading this line “God has nothing to do with our poverty”. I’ve realized that what we are experiencing right now is really our fault and mistakes. What we’re earning now is not enough to pay for our debts. And this is our biggest problem. I’ve been asking God for forgiveness and promise that once we settle all these debts, ayoko na di na ako uulit.

Salamat ng marami. Mabuhay ka, Bro. Bo.

  30. hello, ur right kuya Bo, its our choice to become poor or rich, its not bad to aim higher basta alam natin na hindi tayo lumalamang ng kapwa and were helping others. actually i myself want to become rich why?, kasi i want to help those children that i have watched last time. they lived somewhere in cotobato, nakakaiyak sya kc may mga bata ng dumadanas ng ganung kahirap.

  31. In some instance I agree in what you said here and in some instance I agree also to the person who approached and asked you those questions. If you tried to understand it was an intelligent questions. Maybe he is intense because there are people who are not really good in making their points and they are misinterpreted to be “galit” but forgetting the essence and thoughts of the matter. Bottom-line it is the Motives why you want to become rich…really? you want to help other people? It is not wrong for sure being rich and it is not wrong also being poor indeed. It is God alone who has the reasons why people are poor or rich.Remember once stated in the Bible, there are always poor among you who needs help. Is it their choice really? Or marely God’s plan? How do you know then? Check your MOTIVEs Mr. Bo…Im not saying you’re wrong…Satan Scheme is so very wise we can be blinded….God Bless….

  32. hi bro. bo,
poverty indeed is a mystery ! i believe God allowed poverty. why? coz there are people who worked hard all their lives to become rich, yet remain poor, no matter what they do. and there are those who just ” take it easy ,” and “luck ” just comes at once, it even chases them! wow really! well, all i know is we are here on earth to do God’s Will in our lives, and doing His Will is the essence of living! that’s how holy men and women became Saints; they did God’s Will whilst on earth. Jesus was poor while on earth; His disciples gave up their riches to follow Him and became fishers of men. When He was confronted with the question, ” Master, what must i do to gain eternal life? ” Jesus replied, ” Go sell all that thou hast, and come follow me. ” the man was sad and left , for he had great possessions. in short, it’s really where your heart belongs wether you’re rich or poor. ” gather treasures in heaven, for where thy treasure is, there also will thy heart be.” ” blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the Kingdom of God.” ” to whom much is entrusted, much is required…” ” the poor will always be with you…” says the Lord Jesus.
thanks bro. bo. may you continue to share your God -given blessings to others. may He bless you and your family.
    strel

  33. Hi Bro. Bo,
    Greetins!
Thanks a lot for sharing your thoughts and ideas about God’s word. How I wish and pray that I am rich not for myself alone but for my fellowmen. Honestly, I am not rich in material things but in my own little way I share with my neighbors what I have right now . If only I have more ,then I can extend more help esp. to my less fortunate brothers and sisters who are living in the remote areas. (I live in the southern part of Mindanao )God bless you and may you continue to share your blessings to everyone!!!!

  35. I truly believe in this. That is why i am striving and focusing on becoming reach and learn more on how to be financially stable. I am about to leave the Philippines to work abroad and I believe God gave this to me for a greater purpose to continue helping my SFC community and the works of GK.

  36. Amen. to that Bro. Bo.
to be content for oneself is selfishness.
to love is to do more for others.
JESUS’Said, “love others as you love yourself”
which means if you wear a levis jeans, others should wear levis too. isnt it? we let others eat what we eat.
we must not also categorize or sort out people, love people without condemning, love just, just love, love more, strive more not for thyself, but for others.that others may see JESUS in you.
may all our dreams come true.in JESUS’Name and in accordance to GOD’s Will.Amen. not ours.

  37. THE REASON WHY YOU ARE POOR IS:
1ST, OTHERS CONTROL YOUR LIFE - THE ILLUMINATI, THEY OWN THE BANKS,
    SCHOOLS(YALE),
ALMOST ALL MEDIA (NEWSPAPERS, RADIO, MAGAZINES, HOLLYWOOD, MOVIES, TV, YOU NAME IT)
    GOV’T & POLITICS
2ND, THEY CONTROL THE WORLD. INCLUDING YOU. THEY OWN THE FASHION INDUSTRY, SO THEY OWN YOU.
3RD, THEY LET YOU EAT THERE FOODS WHICH ARE RICH IN NITRATES, ASPARTAME, BENZENES, FLOURIDE, (WHICH ALL CAUSES CANCERS) MAY YOU GET RID OF THIS STUFF.
4TH, AGENDA 21- TO SUSTAINABLE DEVELOPMENT IS TO DECREASE POPULATION, TO DECREASE LIFE.

  38. I absolutely agree that God gave us a choice on what to do with our life. We can choose to remain where we are or choose to improve ourselves. We can also choose to improve ourselves for others. The hard part I guess is that’ s easily said than done especially if, eka nga ng isang ad ng airline, “ang daming baggage!” I guess part of truly becoming rich is to let go of those baggage. Let go and Let God.

  39. Hi Bo,

I’m thinking on how we can truly bless the world? I believe God has given us our own mission to do into this world. And Thank God for giving us a Bo Sanchez to bless us with wisdom about God, life and wealth. Truly, God wants us to be rich. He wants us to love each other the way that He did. To give everything that we can give to all. I truly believe its really about our motives. If we wanted to be rich for the sake of helping many people, then it is really right to desire to be wealthy. But if we’re desiring to be rich just for our own good, I think its not about contentment anymore.

I truly agree with your principle. I hope that man can also realize that. But with all these, something is really making me wonder. How will the whole world know all about this? Many times people have false image of God. Many tend to feel they are poor financially, because they feel that its their destiny and that’s what God has planned for their lives to be, just like what the man has said. Also, many of the rich people are not sharing what they have. And sometimes they also tend to get more of not their own anymore. Inequality, I guess. But all we can do about them is just pray for them, that they may also have the love that the world needs today, the love of Jesus to grow in their hearts.

If many could only realize that God is truly a God that is always with us, believes in us and wants us to be wealthy. He’s not a God that do not understand what we’re going through. But He is a God that is always with us. He is a God that can help us anytime. And a God that’s desiring the same thing that we are desiring if it’s for our own good and for the good of all.

I’m really praying for you and your ministry, that you’ll continue to bless as many people as you can. And hoping and praying that the people you blessed will extend their blessings to others and there will come a time that all people will feel the blessings that is truly coming their way. Thank you Bo. Truly, I guess, it’s a call to start on myself. To help bless the world of what I can give. To do my best to be wealthy in order to work for God’s love.

May God continue to bless you and your ministry! Hoping to also be a part of it. =)

  40. It s so tiresome to be poor financially bro bo hahaha. I want to switch lanes to becoming financially rich. I still have several responsibilities with my family so i cant manage to achieve that yet but i will. I may not be financially rich now but im super rich among other things and im very grateful for that. God is so good all the time bro bo. I have always received lots of love from my family, friends- old and new ones, from people around me, lots of prayers too. I feel so blessed. It would be too much to ask for more blessings for myself so when i pray, i pray for blessings for the people around me instead.

I actually attended one of your seminars on How to become Truly Rich, mind blowing huh? I want to grab the oppurtunity to try the mutual funds investment that you mentioned but this is not yet the time because my salary doesnt go directly to my own pocket yet hehehe. Please expect a ring from me when im ready tnx tnx.

  41. Hi Bo,

I agree 100% with what you said. It is really a matter of choice for us to be rich or poor, and whether to be financially rich only or to be truly rich. the latter is so pleasing to God, as we are enabled to touch other people’s lives, especially the poor’s. in more significant ways.

Most of the people who read your newsletter are engaged in some ministry one way or another. And most of us feel the need for funding. Money is not the solution to everything but money does create more possibilities, open more doors, helps restore the dignity of the great unwashed.

If I don’t have money, and if I don’t have friends who share their money in my work for the poor, my ministry for the poor will shut down tomorrow. I need money to help people. I need more money to help much more people. Ganuon lang po ang simple arithmetic nuon.

thank you Bo and God bless.

  42. Hi there bro.bo

this is my first comments to your article. and im enjoying reading those comments in your article.that’s why here iam writing my own story about poverty. actually im contented with what i have now.what really bothers me is the question that how can i help those people around me especially in financial aspect?. my firends, family, collegues all of them have the same problem it’s MONEY!!. i wanted to help them but i don’t how..last night sabi ko kay god. lord paano ko po tu2lungan ang mga taong ito? im willing to help them if i have enough resources but i have only single centavo on my pocket. sabi ko sa kanya bgyan nya ako ng chance na makatulong sa iba. im more than willing to oblige.

  43. Hi Bo,

God promises us an abundant life. But I guess that’s for us to achieve in this life. In the bible, God made Solomon, Job and other kings rich and even powerful. However, we must be wary that becoming rich comes with a lot of responsibility. Jesus warned us about this (i.e. camel passing through the eye of the needle and the Beatitudes) because once we get rich, we are inclined to be more materialistic. Let’s pray that God gives us wealth for the right purpose.

  47. God bless you more bro. Bo… you’re right. If we only think ourselves, we will not dream and strive to have more than what we have, because of the yearning in our hearts to reach-out to those who are less fortunate, and that they may be inspired too to become truly rich so that the word of God will alive.. “I come that you might have life and have it abudantly.”

  48. Hi Bo, not sure if you are reading all these reactions but here is a piece of wisdom that I want to share with you.

“Be grateful with what you have but never be contented”

Being grateful and being contented are 2 different things. It is discontentment that pushed us humans to develop things that we enjoy today…internet, cars, computers, tv, radio etc….

I guess it’s also discontentment that you want to help billions of people rather than millions. You see, discontentment is never a negative trait. It is actually one of the best human traits that is misunderstood.

  49. hi bro. bo ,
just an addendum to my past comments , - desiring to be rich in order to help the poor is noble indeed. yet, i look at it the other way around. we help others first , whatever state and condition in life we’re in, coz there will always be people who are needier than us. not only in terms of money but our time and talents. then in so giving, God will multiply our blessings as He said, ” Seek first the Kingdom of God and His Righteousness and all things will be given unto you.” when one is rich , one has to exert more effort to resist the things that distract life’s right spiritual perspective and goal, that of salvation. sad to say , that in one way or another, technology has brought more people further away from God.
we may all differ in opinions, yet we all have one thing in common — our Faith in the same One loving God. loving Him is to obey His Commandments.
may we all reach our heavenly destination!
    God bless us all…
    thanks much bro. bo.

  50. We know the word Poor and Rich and absolutely we can define it in numerous ways as the responses was made.

Its truly inspiring how Bro. Bro responded to the man who asked a question and am agree the way it was said.

The question is not in the term being wrong or right; I think what he wanted to tell was, Why people think go beyond those things if people can’t do such things, come to think of those people who born natural of nothing.

Example, babies having cancer, aids or ailments that can’t be solved by any means. I think this is the way how the man would like to bring his thought.

More likely he compared his thought on paragraph I have given above.

How could people do works if he HAS nothing to do more on his self or other. Maybe some would disagree, but we don’t know the real thing why he said that.

There is no line or border that separate the rich and the poor. Whatever the lines we cross, its depends on the paths we take or will be taking.

Poor strive more, and it was proved by many. I am proud that I was born poor, it was a gift that i thank to my parent, why? For I made my own line not getting out on the line of poverty but crossing on the other line saying that things can happen as what God promised.

Yes, everything is a matter of choice. Above all, we should pray for those who think the other way around.

I gave so much thanks for Bro. Bro for am your avid reader. God bless you and made the man of hour. Thanks and please remain in God.

    Bless to all of you.

  51. i don’t want to be rich…. all i dream of is to have a house of my own where my children can go home to, relax and not to worry about other eyes watching their every move. but i’m married to a man who doesn’t realizaed that his main responsibility is to provide shelter for his family. i have been working for the past 22 years, sadly, all those time i was not able to provide shelter for my 3 girls. mainly because my husband was contented for us to stay with relatives, first with my in-laws and now with my famiy. i’m scared that if i leave this world, then wala ring uuwian ang mga anak ko. god has been good with me because he has provided me always with a job. i have been providing for the needs of my three girls for the past years. having a house now, with all our expenses is a very remote possibility. but wh know? someday it may come true… i just keep on praying cause i know that somehow god undertsand my needs and will provide me with the answer to what i’m asking for.

  52. I truly believe that being rich or poor is a choice no matter how we strive in doing things. The only thing we should do is to believe in ourself and at the same time increase our faith in God for He is the Greatest provider in all our needs. Of course we should do something with our life not just to wait for God’s Blessings. Strive and God will always answer our needs. In silence God knows what we need before asking Him. God Bless and More Power!

  53. let’s not be losers! if you have talent, brain, and skills, those things were given by God, so let’s use them and make money! Lots and lots of money, then share it to those who are also aspiring to be rich by giving them the chance for good education, livelihood and even foundations for the betterment of more people. then you will die happy, not because of the money but the chance that in your lifetime, you were able to use your life’s potentials to the max and were able to help others find their potentials too and the cycle goes on. If you just content yourself with what you can produce to feed yourself, you will also die but not as happy as the one who produced and shared to many. Let’s go for it and give the world a new definition of what wealth means in the context of God’s love and providence. Let’s do that out of love not only for ourselves but most specially for others.

  54. hi kuya,

  55. Hi Bo,
I understand your intention in trying to motivate people on how to make more than what they are already earning, but I just don’t see the relevance of that to God, or more importantly, the Gospel. You see, the Scriptures teaches us that these things (money, house, business, cars, trips, insurance, etc) are “worldly things” and that we should not concern ourselves of these things if we are indeed Christians. Well, I also commend you for your desire to help the needy, the poverty-stricken, the underprivileged, but what sense is there in helping them by giving them food and money when you do not help their spiritual needs? Isn’t that what is more important?
The Gospel, the one true Gospel, is Christ’s crucifixion and death on the cross to redeem man from sin. That act of Christ requires man to repent, believe and follow according to Scriptures.
Let’s not get lost in the glamour of the world. This is all temporal, it has no value, will never hold water upon our death.
I continue to seek the True Gospel in your writings and even in your books and hope and pray that someday, I will indeed see one.
    Best of luck.

  56. Many of us here have been trying to find solutions to the problems we are facing as a country. But a lot of people here have failed to realize that THE BIGGEST PROBLEMS WE HAVE ARE THE ONES WHICH CONCERN OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH GOD. We have to address that first if we want to get anywhere positive.

“But SEEK YE FIRST THE KINGDOM OF GOD, AND HIS RIGHTEOUSNESS; and all these things shall be added unto you.” (Matthew 6:33) KJV

The two BIGGEST PROBLEMS WE HAVE HERE IN OUR COUNTRY are these: IGNORANCE OF GOD’S LAWS and DELIBERATE DISREGARD OF GOD’S LAWS.

“My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because thou hast rejected knowledge, I will also reject thee, that thou shalt be no priest to me: seeing thou hast forgotten the law of thy God, I will also forget thy children.” (Hosea 4:6) KJV

We can’t plan anything that will oust the government (GMA’s or whoever next occupies Malacanang). We can’t be praying or wishing that Gloria dies. We can’t be joining organizations that plan to overthrow the government. Those are the wrong moves to take. Why? Because it goes against God’s word!

“Let every soul be subject unto the higher powers. For there is no power but of God: the powers that be are ordained of God. WHOSOEVER THEREFORE RESISTETH THE POWER, RESISTETH THE ORDINANCE OF GOD: AND THEY THAT RESIST SHALL RECEIVE TO THEMSELVES DAMNATION.” (Romans 13:1-2) KJV

Let’s read more of Romans 13, shall we…?

“FOR RULERS ARE NOT A TERROR TO GOOD WORKS, BUT TO THE EVIL…” (Romans 13:3)KJV

    And….

“Owe no man anything, but to love one another: for he that loveth another hath fulfilled the law…..Love worketh no ill to his neighbor: therefore LOVE IS THE FULFILLING OF THE LAW.” (Romans 13:8,10) KJV

How can we be loving to our neighbors - THAT INCLUDES GLORIA MACAPAGAL ARROYO- if we wish for their downfall? Remember, love is not doing anything to hurt others.

“But I say unto you which hear, LOVE YOUR ENEMIES, DO GOOD TO THEM WHICH HATE YOU, BLESS THEM THAT CURSE YOU, AND PRAY FOR THEM WHICH DESPITEFULLY USE YOU….AND AS YE WOULD THAT MEN SHOULD DO TO YOU, DO YE ALSO TO THEM LIKEWISE.” (Luke 6:27-28,31) KJV

I’m not saying GMA and other people in positions of power have done nothing wrong. But to the bloggers here who are quick to condemn these people- I ask you: Have you done nothing wrong in your lives? Are you sinless?

The reason these people(and everyone else ignorant of the TRUTH) do unimaginable evils is because they’re possessed by the devil! Why do I say that? Because these people HAVE NOT HEARD THE TRUE GOSPEL OF OUR LORD JESUS CHRIST(Ignorance or blatant disregard of God’s laws) and THEY DON’T HAVE THE SPIRIT OF GOD(Ignorance or blatant disregard of God’s laws)

“But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. NOW IF ANY MAN HAVE NOT THE SPIRIT OF CHRIST, HE IS NONE OF HIS.” (Romans 8:9) KJV

“For I bear them record that they have a zeal of God, but not according to knowledge. For they, BEING IGNORANT OF GOD’S RIGHTEOUSNESS, and GOING ABOUT TO ESTABLISH THEIR OWN RIGHTEOUSNESS, have not submitted themselves unto the righteousness of God. For Christ is the end of the law for righteousness to every one that believeth.” (Romans 10:2-4) KJV

Our Dearest Jesus HAS COMMANDED US to do good to all peoples, even our enemies. Besides giving them food to eat, water to drink, being kind and understanding toward them, there’s something that we can do that is by far, THE BEST THING, we can do for others. What is this thing? Preach to them the TRUE Gospel of Our Dearest Jesus. To share with them the TRUTH.

“Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost: TEACHING THEM TO OBSERVE ALL THINGS WHATSOEVER I HAVE COMMANDED YOU: and lo, I AM WITH YOU ALWAY, EVEN UNTO THE END OF THE WORLD. Amen.” (Matthew 28:19-20) KJV

“And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and PREACH THE GOSPEL TO EVERY CREATURE. He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.” (Mark 16:15-16) KJV

    Praise the Lord! Alleluia!

  57. You’re right kuya Bo,

Most of us work everyday for a living but we forget to put God first in everything. We strive hard to earn money not for the purpose of giving or sharing what we have but to fill our cravings of worldly things. This is also one of the reasons why some of us until now are not blessed.

    Cathy

  58. hi bro. bo,
this topic is really broad and has vast perspective in all angles in life. i can’t get it out of my system. ha ha. all i know is everthing that happens in this world EXCEPT SIN is God’s Will. how can one extract God out of his mortal life wether he is rich or poor materially. there’s not a thing more deplorable than a soul that is so bereft of God’s grace. it’s horrifying to think that one’s spiritual poverty stands in the brink of a very fine thread that leads to eternal damnation. it’s when we think that we are self sufficient that we become surely vulnerable to satan’s tactics and easily fall to his cunning traps, God forbids. we need God at all times to be strong, in Him our being moves, He is the air that we breathe. without Him we can do nothing. reminds me of Jesus’ story ’bout a rich man who so depended on his wealth and laurels saying, he should eat and be merry for he has all the riches that will last him his whole lifetime. Jesus said, ” tonight your life is required of you…” when we leave this life, all we can bring is our good works. what matters most is our spiritual richness in the eyes of God; the wealth that ” neither rust nor moth consumes, neither thieves break in and steal, for where thy treasure is, there also will thy heart be.” ” what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and suffer the loss of his own soul. ” says Jesus.
have a good day everyone! may we help one another reach our heavenly destination.
thanks so much bro. bo for this beautiful space.
    God bless us all.

  59. hi bo,

    thank you…

  60. Peace to all, I was born poor, but now with my faith in God , My dream have come through.

Being rich in material is not enough if you dont have faith in God. Being poor in material means you have peace in your heart. I know a lot of rich people around me but they are no thappy, why? they dont have peace in there heart, If you are rich and stingy, you will die with eyes open( for sure). But if you are rich like Oprah Wimprey, giving away her money to the poor she’s always favored back for what she share from her richness. Hello!!!! guy be a giver not spending money for a bday parties , God favored us with our richness , so that we can share it to the poor who are really badly in need. So, I hope all of you who read this comment please open your heart to the poor , and you will find peace always. God blessed all of you.
Blessed you bro Bo and your family circle.

  61. So true, and I hear you.

Same thing with me…I work in the evening…and yes I earn quite well. People say I don’t need to…and yes, they’re right…but like you, I have some initiatives that I have learned to value to a point that I sacrifice some of life’s pleasures to support some cause…it will be unfair to some people if I stop just like that.

  62. hi bo,

  64. thank you bro.bo, great post, for me i believe that God gave us freedom to choose to be rich or to be poor. God bless you.

  65. Hi Brother Bro,

Thanks for visiting us in the Emirates of Fujairah. I am one of your avid readers in Kerygma since I was in college. Gratefully to say, you`re God`s instrument why I find the way and resist to kept out the so called Crab Mentality. My story begins as a prom di boy dreamed that someday I can go to high school in my province ( Leyte). One day, I ask my mother that I will go to the school located 7 kms from my barangay to take the admission test. That was the first time I saw that my mother burst into tears. I know she is willing but nothing to do to help me. She told me to asked my father who at that time busy cleaning our (kaingin) a small garden at the middle of the bush. I asked my father of my intention and he immediately take out his pocket a five peso bill and said: Go take the exam and we just decide later on if you can continue your study or not. I know it`s impossible for me to finish my high school on that time. But poverty teaches me to make things possible. I graduated in high school with 150 pesos refunded from the principal`s office `coz I served them as a student labor in our school.

My saga did not end there. A week later, I ask my mother if possible I can go to Manila so I can pursue my studies. This is the second time that my mother was crying in a loud voice. She was beating herself….. say sorry to me. I don`t understand what she said and embraced me tightly. I promise her that I will not coming back until I graduated in college. While in Manila, things quite difficult for me esp. the language spoken. I look for a job an was hired as helper electrician in Lung Center of the Philippines.

Through the help of our engineers, I have given chance to take 2- year course (evening class). And successfully graduated. My chances became more brighter now. I have already an experience and a diploma. I was hired in other company and continue my BSEE an graduated. Ah!.. now is the time. I came back to my home province bringing with me my two diplomas…. that is 7 years later. I realized that ” sour grapes” has a good taste.

My story is only one of the many examples. I have no intention to bust myself but to give encouragement to those who desire to succeed. It is with in. Your Burning Desire will leads you of what you are. Stop blaming others, you are the captain of your own ship. If you want that our country will be change. Why not ask yourself?. Discipline begins at home.

It is not bad to help others as soon as you don`t make him/her idle. As the Chinese Proverb says: Give a Man a Fish and He will consume for a Day. Teach Him how to Fish and you will feed him forever.

Thank you Brother Bo. Hope to meet you again. God Bless You and Your Family.

  66. Greetings,

Hi Brother Bo, Miguel is here. I want to share a story that may enlighten to those who may seek.

20 years ago Scotland is the Bangladesh of Europe. Like our country the have/ had problems in politics. Opportunity, is for the elite few. At present in Dublin alone you can`t buy property less than a million pounds.

On that time a 13 year old boy together with his father, mother, and brother migrate to America with the help of their relatives. He work in different jobs then as a telegraph messenger. At the age of 30, he resigned his job to go into business. And that`s the beginning of his empire until he became one of the riches man in America or the world. Although very rich, he did not forget his humble beginning. He distributed his wealth to different institutions, claiming himself that he will take his annual income of 50000USD. The exist may proceed to the different institutions.

And the most important thing for us Filipinos. In 1898, Andrew Carnegie tried to arrange for independence for the Philippines. As the end of the Spanish American War neared, the United States bought the Philippines from Spain for $20 million USD. To counter what he perceived as imperialism on the part of the United States, Carnegie personally offered $20 million USD to the Philippines so that the Filipino people could buy their independence from the United States.
The bottom line, There can be no compromise between POVERTY and RICHES! The two roads that leads to poverty and riches travels in opposite directions. If you want riches, you must refuse to accept any circumstances that leads toward poverty.

To our country the Philippines, there is always hope because God will always watch His people. The Bible says, as soon as there is one believer in that place I will not send plaque. But make it safe. Sometimes, we meet some problems with our families, to our place but this is only a quick recall to us. Through the abundance we have, sometimes we forget God.

    Thanks,
    Miguel
