These past few weeks, I wrote about how we can discern God’s will for us. The first part is about listening to the “Inner Voice”. The second part is about “Inner Values”.

Here’s the third way of discovering God’s Will…

Inner Vision

If you know your Life Purpose, you already know God’s Will.

Let me ask you: What is your Life Purpose? What is your Life Mission? What is your Life Dream?

One day, I met a businessman. He said that before he became religious, he was a dynamic businessman. Creative, bold, and adventurous. And his business grew by leaps and bounds.

But he said everything came to a halt when he became religious. Like his wings were clipped. Because he joined a religious community that required all his decisions—personal or business—be first consulted to the spiritual elders.

And his business went downhill from there.

“Here’s your mistake,” I told him. “God leaves the details to you. God’s Will is not a Detailed Command, but a Divine Call.

Why do I believe in that? Because God didn’t create robots. God created human beings with a phenomenal brain that can think, innovate, and create!

I repeat: There is no Detailed Command. There is only a Divine Call.

We’re so enamored with the HOW. But God doesn’t want to tell you HOW to do it. God wants to tell you WHY you should do it. And when you get the WHY, you’ll get the HOW.

Imagine this scene…

Paint Something Beautiful

Your life is an empty white canvas.

And God supplies you with a box full of paint and brushes. And He tells you, “Paint something beautiful!”

Many times, in our fear, we keep asking God, “Lord, what do you want me to paint? What style will I use—realism, impressionism, expressionism, cubism, pointillism, bahala-na-ism, bara-bara-na-ism?”

And God says, “Child, paint something beautiful.”

We ask again, “Lord, what colors will I use?”

And God says, “Child, paint something beautiful.”

Today, God is opening up the whole universe and is telling you, “Dive in! Explore! Be the greatest, most excellent, most phenomenal human being you can ever become. Learn from your failures. Make mistakes. Be yourself. And love in the best way possible!”

God’s Will Is Your Deepest Desire

How do you discover your Life Vision?

Ask yourself: What do you really, really, really want?

One day, I met a young woman who said she’s been praying if God wants her to be a nun. She told me that she’s been asking for a sign from God, but the sign has not yet come.

I asked her, “What sign did you ask for?”

She said, “I asked God that my mother tell that I should be a nun.”

“Hmm, that’s a pretty specific sign,” I said. “Where’s your Mother?”

“She died 7 years ago…”

Groan.

I told her, “Get out of here and get married.”

Because that was what she really, really, really wanted.

At the end of the day, I believe that God’s Will is found in your deepest desire. What should you do? Strip away your superficial desires! As the Bible says, I desire to do your will, O my God (Psalms 40:8) and Delight yourself in the Lord and he will give you the desires of your heart. (Psalms 37:4)

Some religious people have a problem when I preach about making your dreams come true. They argue with me, “But our dreams are NOT important. What is important are God’s dreams for us.”

Yes, I agree. But if your dreams and God’s dreams are in conflict, then what you say are your dreams are not really your deepest dreams. They’re superficial dreams. Because when God created you, He created you with His dreams planted very deep in your heart. Your deepest desire is to do God’s Will.

That’s why the Bible says, If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. (James 15:7)

Remain in Jesus. And let Jesus remain in you.

And you’ll desire His desires.

God’s Will is God’s Love.

May your dreams come true,

Bo Sanchez
