What Is Your Joy List?
My traveling companion was an 83-year-old woman.
I just preached in Jakarta and Singapore—and brought my Mom with me.
Sure, she had salt and pepper hair.
And a few more wrinkles on her face.
Sure, she had her metal cane.
And walked slower than I did.
But Mom followed my crazy schedule.
We arrived midnight in Jakarta. Slept a bit. By morning, I gave my seminar while my Jakarta friends toured Mom around the city—malls, the cathedral, etc. In the evening, she watched my Concert. We slept after midnight again like she was a teenager from a late night party.
The next day, we woke up early for my morning talk. After that, while I attended more meetings, my friends whisked Mom away to shop. This included a cable car ride at the amusement park!
That night, she slept by midnight. Again!
The next morning, we flew to Singapore. There, Mom attended my seminars. But in between, she went around Singapore. And would you believe? This 83-year old woman even rode a gigantic Ferris wheel!
Now tell me: How many of you know of women her age still riding Ferris wheels?
If You’re Alive, Why Not Be Really Alive?
Mom is teaching me how to be really alive.
Now don’t misunderstand me.
Mom has her moments of deep sorrow.
Mom lost Dad last year.
So every now and then, she cries a lot.
But she’s made a decision that while she’s alive, she’ll live it to the full.
While she’s alive, she’ll enjoy life the way she wants to.
I believe Mom has a “Joy List”—things that she really enjoys doing. I don’t know if she ever wrote it down on paper, but I’m absolutely sure she has it written down in her heart. Here is her “Joy List”:
· Go to Mass everyday.
· Pray daily before the Blessed Sacrament.
· Have happy meals with her children and grandchildren, especially with her favorite son. (Ahem.)
· Watch EWTN on TV everyday—after my TV shows of course.
· Chat with her friends on the phone. Most of her old friends are now in Heaven. So she had to make new friends—twenty and thirty years younger than her.
· Listen to my talks and laugh at my jokes—even if she has heard them a hundred times already.
· Ride Cable Cars in Indonesia and giant Ferris Wheels in Singapore!
Her philosophy: “If you’re alive, why not be really alive?”
My Joy List
Like Mom, I love life. I really do!
I’m not into Ferris Wheels though.
But I wrote down my own “Joy List”.
Here it is…
· I want to laugh more often.
· I want to date my wife more often than my minimum of once a week. I just love being with her.
· I want to spend at least 2 hours each day to read books! To drink knowledge and inspiration from the best of the best.
· I want to feel my sweat more. I grew up not very athletic, but that’s been changing these past years. I want to exercise more. I want to learn Tennis, Badminton, and Swimming.
· I want to take more “5-day writing breaks” in a beach or mountaintop at least once a month.
· I want to play with my kids more often! I’ve got the greatest boys in the world.
· I want to take long vacations with family and friends 3 times a year.
· I want to have more lunches with my mentors.
· I want to earn ten times what I’m earning now.
· I want to share more practical wisdom to others—so people will know how to live with more love, happiness, and abundance.
· I want to share my wealth through my businesses and ministries.
· I want to pray more under the warmth of the sun each morning, surrounded by a lovely garden.
Friend, it’s your turn.
Ask yourself this simple question: What gives you joy?
Write it down.
Big joys. Small joys. Write them all down.
Don’t live passively.
Don’t live your days on autopilot, forever stuck on your routine.
Fill your life with as much happiness as you can.
Live your life deliberately.
Here’s my belief: People cannot give what they don’t have. If you don’t respect yourself, love yourself, and meet your needs for joy, how can you do the same for others? The holy saint is a happy saint.
Make your own Joy List today.
What makes you happy?
May your dreams come true,
Bo Sanchez

why put too much emphasis on having your own family to be happy? whatever you are and whatever you have, you can be happy. but it seems other people are not happy with this. the church should address all types of people, not only bless/emphasize one socially accepted segment. never heard a homily in my whole life on this. but one thing is for sure, Jesus loves me no matter what and for that, i am very happy. : )
one source of great joy: i help thousands of poor but talented artisans in asia through the creative talent God gave me.
God bless you all.
My happiness in simple things and in simple ways…
a) Praying and divulging everything to God makes me feel lighthearted and happy.
b) praying for my love ones
c) helping my brother in his study(financial and moral support)
d) encouraging my friends when they are down, and being a source of inspiration(in my own little ways) to others.
e) performing my job for the day–and accomplishing something.
f) understanding why such things happen (the message that it gives in a particular situation)
g) rising from every heartaches that i encountered
h) receiving my salary and sharing some of it to my family.
God Bless everyone! HIS guidance be ours always.
My ultimate joy is when I bring joy to my family… partcularly to my nephews and nieces, my siblings, and to my parents. When I am able to help their financial needs and get to spend time with them.
Also, I feel very happy when I am able to achieve my Target Income a month. Because that would mean, I would be able to share and help more.
Bo, my boyfriend and I attended your Truly Rich Seminar last August 2. We traveled all the way from La Union because we believe so much on your principles and lessons about life and finances.
I really pray that God would bless me more, so that one day, I can go to you and donate a portion of my earnings to your ministry.
God Bless us!

We don’t talk much and I was too shy to tell them my own problems. I want to be with them..laugh with them and do some stuff with them. I want to be happy as long as I’m alive. I want to be confident in all that I do. I want to crack jokes with my friends. I want to be just me not comparing myself to others. I want to go to church every Sundays and Wednesdays. Hi, Bro. Bo! At last I found a space where I can write in and share my thoughts as well as my joy lists in life. I am just a new member of this blog and I do really admire God’s works in your life. You’re really blessed and full of life. I thank you for the space and time you spend with us.
My joy lists? Hmmmn, I’m just happy to make others happy, to reach out their needs through prayers for as of now this is the only thing I can do for people, and to be with my family once in a while, but the best thing that makes me happy is talking to God all the time wherever I am. Till next time, God bless!
My joy lists includes first and foremost, my time with God-through personal prayertime before and after each day; mass on Sundays; talking over the phone with my family on weekends; read inspiring stories and inspire people too; shopping(to pamper ourselves sometimes and give rewards too); learn how to cook new delicacies & menus; sing my favorite songs-from the heart..Speaking about singing, I bought my Papa a Magic Sing last Father’s Day…I know it gives him joy..he loves singing. That gives me joy too; leave reply for SOULFOOD! It’ true.
Thank you for reminding we make a joy list. This affirms how we should be spending our time more so that all we do become truly purposeful while living.
Sometimes when we are too busy we forget that life must be spent really worthwhile with what matters most. So when bad times come up,these joyful list becomes our shield and help us keep going.

” GOD BLESS US ALL”
Dear Bo,
I am a happy person. Simple things really make me happy. My saddest moments are times when my girlfriend would always tell me that She isn’t getting any love or have felt love from me. Today, while I am writing you this, I actually received text messages from her saying I am hurting her because I do not love her. She is not here right now and shes about approximately 150kms from where I stay.
She makes me happy Bo and it pains me alot when out of nowhere and in the middle of the night texting me that I never loved her. Actually, we’ve been together 15 hours ago and here she go again. It is our 8th year together as boyfriend-girlfriend and we’ve been that way since we were still in college. Almost every month of my life she would always complain about me not giving enough love. Every week we meet and dine to together Bo but as if it is only a simple meal. I try to make things lite and easy whenever we ague but sometimes I can’t understand her saying I am making just another joke out of thing. Hello! did I ever say Knock! Knock! (who’s there?)
Women are becoming very demanding now a days and sometimes they just wanted men to be there when they need them regardless of what you’re doing. I have a busy job and so is hers. I just don’t know why she can’t understand that sometimes we also need to work.
Bo, I am A father, mother and sister to my little sister who was left by my parents five years ago. When they left abroad, I thought the world had already left me, I was there at the airport with teary eyes but never showed them. With their leaving for abroad, they also left me with great responsibilties of taking care of 2 grandparents and 1 little sister who was in her 3rd grade then. And here also comes my girlfriend complaining about time with her. She doesn’t even know how difficult for me to find time with her. I also pity my little sister because my girlfriend is already eating up almost all the time I have for my family.
I work really hard Bo, I work really hard to sustain my family. Although “foreign aid” are sent by my parents it always seem not enough so I need to work.
I am writing this letter crying because I don’t even have a friend to whom I can also tell my problems with, My bestfriend brother also went abroad that is why in this kind of times I could never turn to any one except the my self.. I don’t even think that my grandmother would even care to listen because at her age she is almost deaf.
Life is easy bro but never to love. How I wish I could drink all the beer in this world but I am not a drinker and a smoker and I never will.
May be, the greatest joy that I would receive is to be with my parents and brothers again. I firmly believe that the last persons you can turn to are your family members.
Bo, I’m 29 and still single but have plans to get married. But not now because I am keeping a promise from my father because he wanted to see to it that he will be the one’s to accompany me to the altar when I get married. He told me that he missed lots of events in my life and would see to it by then.
follow your heart.
BE HAPPY……dont complicate life…
