I believe the key to more miracles is what I call action-oriented faith.

Why?  After living in this planet for more than half-a-century, I’ve realized that when you enter into God’s hardware store of miracles, you’ll see something quite interesting: Most of your blessings are stamped with the letters “DIY”

Yes, most of God’s blessings for you are “Do It Yourself”.

They don’t come already assembled. You need to assemble them with your own hands. You need to build your blessing.

Yes, all the raw materials, all the spare parts, all the LEGO pieces are come from God. But you need to have action-oriented faith to build your blessing. St. James says, “I will show you my faith by my works.”  (James 2:17 ESV)

Preachers don’t preach this often. But I believe they should.

Because I believe that half the time, this is God’s answer to our prayers. God says, “Yes, the blessing is here for the taking. Prepared.  Hand-made. Gift-wrapped. With your name on it. But you have to come here and get it. Unwrap it. Pull out the pieces from the box. Follow the instructions. Assemble it. Build it. Work!”

Have you ever prayed, “Lord, help me win the Lotto!”?

Been there, done that. When I was a teen missionary, I was walking on the street when I saw an old woman selling sweepstakes. The prize was P10 Million. At that time, the Feast Family wanted to buy a property for our community center worth P5 Million. I prayed, “Lord, I’ll buy this sweepstake ticket to help this old woman. And if you make me win, I’ll donate half of my earnings to the ministry.”  (Bribing God wasn’t beneath me. ?)

Do you know what happened? Nothing.

Today, I thank God that nothing happened. Because if I won, I would have robbed myself of the inner growth that came from working hard for the money to donate to the ministry.

Regularly, I receive requests for prayer from people buried in debt and who ask me to pray that they win the LOTTO.  In their desperation, they believe it’s their only hope.  They want to get out of debt by magic. But that kind of magical thinking will dig them even deeper into debt.

To those in debt and praying for a miracle, I tell them, “God doesn’t just want to pay your debt, God wants to change your life.”
