One day, a woman asked me, “Bo, I’m a shopaholic. I can’t stop buying stuff. What should I do?”
I said, “When the shopping craving hits you, and you want to run to the nearest mall to get your fix, say this line out loud for a hundred times: I have everything I need!
He lets me rest in fields of green grass and leads me to quiet pools of fresh water.
God gives us a peace that all the money in the world cannot buy. Many years ago, I watched a CNN interview with a billionaire.
The host asked, “You have lots of money. Do you still worry about money?”
The billionaire’s answer shocked me. He said, “Oh yeah! I worry a lot. I worry a lot because all my money can disappear in a snap…”
As a young guy watching this interview, I suddenly felt pity for him. At the time, I didn’t have much money, yet I knew I was richer than him. Because I had something that he didn’t have. I had the most expensive thing in the world, because all the money in the world can’t buy it. I had peace. I can sleep at night without worrying about money.
Do you have peace? Then you are very rich.
You prepare a banquet for me, where all my enemies can see me; you welcome me as an honored guest and fill my cup to the brim.
In this verse, the analogy shifts from Shepherd and Sheep, to Host and Guest.
Imagine yourself travelling in the desert, and your enemies—people who want to steal from you—are chasing after you. Suddenly, you see a huge tent with many men around it, and you run to it. The owner of the tent himself welcomes you into the safety of his house. And you see your enemies from a distance throwing a fit, kicking sand, and cursing in seven languages, because they saw you beyond their reach.
The Host prepares a six-course meal for you. And the Psalm says that your cup is overflowing with wine. What does this mean?
In ancient times, if the Host continues to pour wine into your cup, that means he wants you to stay. But if he stops pouring, that means it’s time to leave. The spiritual message is powerful: God has welcomed you into the safety and protection of His Kingdom—and He wants you to stay forever.
I know that your goodness and love will be with me all my life; and your house will be my home as long as I live.
In another version, it says, Your beauty and love chase after me every day of my life.
Say this with me: Blessings are chasing after me!
May your dreams come true,
Bo Sanchez
