People are worried.

People ask me, “Bo, will there be a recession in the US? And if there will be, how will this affect the Philippines?”

I don’t blame them for asking. There’s a reason to be scared. In only 3 months, three US Banks have already collapsed: Silicon Valley Bank, Signature Bank, and First Republic Bank. Yikes.

So will there be a recession? Answer: The Federal Open Market Committee is indeed expecting a mild recession in America in 2023.

But will this affect the Philippines? Yes, the US is our major trading partner, so we will be affected. But how much will be its impact?

Over the past years, the Philippines has become less vulnerable compared to years ago. For example, unlike the US banks that have collapsed, our major banks are very strong today and earning huge amounts.

So what should you do with this bad news?

Here’s my advice: Follow Warren Buffet. He is the greatest investor today. What’s so fascinating is that he’s still at it. At 92! His business partner, Charles Munger, is even older at 99.

In the language of my book, The Turtle Always Wins, Warren Buffet is the original Turtle. He does things very slowly but very consistently. One slow step at a time. Until he reaches his goal.

And he never loses hope. No matter how bleak the scenario—whether it be the 911 terrorist attack in 2001, or the global financial crisis of 2007, or the 2020 global lockdown because of Covid—he always believed that better days were ahead.

That’s why he’s the best investor in the world.

In some of these global crisis, his stocks plummeted down by 40%.

Imagine how Buffet felt at that time—losing billions in a span of a few days. This may have happened to you too: Looking at your stock portfolio at COLFinancial and seeing that your P50,000 or P100,000 or P1 Million going down by 40%. How would you feel?

But to Warren, the original Turtle, he doesn’t flinch. Instead, he gets excited and keeps buying stocks during each crisis.

Today, his stocks are bigger than ever. Be like Warren. Be the turtle that always wins.
