Rant.

I’m going to rant. (Just a little.)

          After all, I’m human.

If you don’t want to read one of my pet peeves, stop reading. I’ll be more inspiring next week.

Someone asked me why we’re charging P500 for the two-day Kerygma Conference at the ULTRA, from November 29 to 30, 2009. Her question to me was, “Isn’t God’s Word Free? The Kerygma Conferenceshould be free!”

This is what I wrote to her: “God’s Word is free. Absolutely. But renting a huge stadium like ULTRA, isn’t. Plus the huge sound system, all the lights, the LCD projectors, the stage, etc…, aren’t free. The total cost of running this 2-Day event is P2 Million++.”

I was very respectful. But my mind was ranting. I wanted to say, “If you’ll give me P2M, I’ll make it free. But I can’t go to ULTRA and say, ‘Hi guys. Can I borrow your stadium for two whole days? You pay for the salaries of your 70 maintenance guys. You pay for the giant electric bill we’ll consume during those two days. And I promise—I’ll pray for you and remember you fondly in my dreams.”

I never said those words. And I never will.

I’m just sharing with you the nasty thoughts in my brain when I get irritated.

Different Setting, But Same Question

This reminded me of my Seminars in Singapore last Saturday. (Which was very successful, by the way. Big thanks to Light of Jesus friends there!)

Weeks before, my dear friend Jimmy was selling tickets for my Seminar. While going around, one guy asked him, “Why is Bo charging 20 Singapore Dollars for the seminar?” Again, the underlying question was, “Shouldn’t this be for free?”

If I were there, I would have been tempted to say, “Because God didn’t make me a bird, I can’t fly to Singapore for free. Like everyone else, I have to ride a plane and pay for it. Aside from that, we have to pay another 700 Singapore Dollars to rent the Seminar hall. Unless of course, you’re willing pay for all that—we’ll most gladly give the seminar for free.”

Nah. I’ll never say this to anyone.

Because I try to understand them. People just don’t know the huge costs of running events.   And I guess they want it free so more people can come and be blessed. They ask with good intentions.

See? My thoughts are getting kinder as I as write to you!

Oxygen Is Free. Food Isn’t

Some people think that because it’s a spiritual event, it should be free.

Yes, the event is about the spirit, but it’s still done on planet Earth.

Sorry for my rant. I felt like a fool writing this.

I’ll write something more inspiring next week, promise.

          Haha!

I love you guys. Thanks for being patient with me.

          May your dreams come true,

            Bo Sanchez

PS. My invitation to the Kerygma Conference is found below. I’m very excited about it. Join me and be very, very blessed… (Yes, it still costs P500 per ticket.  Compared to the 2-Days of blessings you’ll receive, it’s a huge steal if you ask me.)

2 Days of Blessing!

With International Speakers At The Kerygma Conference 08

You’ll be so blessed, you’ll be talking about it for a long, long time!

In this Kerygma Conference, you’ll hear Fr. Bill Halbing from New Jersey. Fr. Bill is probably one of the most charismatic (and funniest) preachers among American priests I’ve ever met. He’ll get you fired up for God and laughing at the same time. We’re flying him over to the Philippines so youcould be inspired by him at the Kerygma Conference 08.

I also invited Bro. Bob Canton, a man used mightily by God to heal many people. I’ve literally seen the lame walk in his ministry. Each week, I read the dramatic testimonies of sick people who are healed by his prayer. Bro. Bob lives in California, but he also sits on the International Catholic Charismatic Renewal Board in the Vatican, Rome. And to think he’s Filipino! (Cebuano, to be precise.) So we’re flying him in to the Philippines also to lead our healing sessions in the Kerygma Conference 08.

We’re also bringing in one of the most inspiring Bishops in the Philippines today: Bishop Chito Tagle. You’ll love him.

And to lead us in Sunday worship is none other than the powerful Fr. Joseph Skelton—an African-American priest gifted with an incredible voice of praise.

Yes, I’ll be preaching too, and so will other Kerygma Preachers—Arun Gogna, Alvin Barcelona, Obet Cabrillas, Jon Escoto, Carl Fontanilla, Eng Si, and George Gabriel.

Friends, get ready for an overflow of blessing into your life!

Get your tickets now at the give-away price of P500 for 2 solid, full, power-packed days of blessing…

  1. Dear Bro Bo,

I admire you for sharing your true feelings, well, as you’ve said, you are only human, and just like me, we feel irritated sometimes especially when we hear some reactions from people who doesn’t truly understand what’s going on.
I admit sometimes I’m one of those people who jump into conclusion without using my logical thinking and i feel bad about it.
This is my first time posting a comment and I really want to say my deepest thanks for inspiring us. Godbless.

    Jorge

  2. Hi Bro. Bo,

This is one of your sharings which I like the most. Why? Aside from seeing our human nature, it takes courage to express our true feelings. Inspite of what you are feeling, you are still in control of it. I admit I am weak in controlling my rant and after reading your sharing I have learned things to manage ire.

    GOD bless.

    Nica

  3. Hi Bro. Bo,

Thank you for being so true and for being honest with your feelings. Yet you were in control of it. Yet you have strong control over your emotion. I do pray I will have that gift in the future.

    God bless Bro. Bo!

  4. Love your blog Bro. Bo.

Just we need here is patience.

Yan ang hanap-buhay ng mga preachers which is to serve. it is like inviting an artist in one event (even inviting him to sing for your birthday, wedding). We, workers, sinuwesweldo tayo twice a month. Thanks to the person who sings, preaches for free.

Just like this blog about rant. Understand their profession, and think also na binabayaran din ang venue.

  5. Hi Bo,

As I was reading your blog, I remembered your sharing in one of your talks - The 3Ps in times of trials and difficulties (or something like that). 1st - Paper, 2nd - People, 3rd - Prayer.

I’m sure you’ve already discussed this situation to the people you most trusted most. Moreover, I’m sure that you have lifted this to God and prayed over the people who do not understand.

Truly, you are living your words as you write this frustration down in Paper (blog). Now everyone knows what you’re going through in this aspect. (Tap on the back…)

    God bless in the KCon!

    Jan Silan

  6. you brought up a very good point brother bo sometimes people think that putting up a conference like that is just easy. others thought that religiious activities does not inlvove cost. people tend to look at what have to spend for attending it rather than looking at the ever all picture of what does it take to put up an event like that and personally, what is P500 in exchange of wonferful experience with God\’s children? especially when all your have to do is come and sit back relax and enjoy the moment with GOD? i admire your patience and your enthusiasm on bringing people closer to God. I pray that God will continue to bless you and your ministry so you can help more people. and let\’s pray for the difficult people around us, in one of your blogs u said they too could be a blessing. I remain ur friend - Anon

  7. let your angst out, you’re human bro. bo. :)

  8. Bro. Bo,
we all have raw emotions thus we rant or jump into conclusion. you are right!! because we are human.

there are spiritual gatherings for free. maybe this was their basis and would wish that Kerygma Conference done the same way.

there are those that start with no fund, does not charge and trusts that God provides. the offerings enough or more than enough to pay off everything. this is ideal but i understand does not happen all the time.

in both cases, free or not, we pray that God enlightens us when is it free and when do we charge.

  9. I think this is my favorite article yet. As an Accounting personnel, I get this all the time. “Why are you charging for this? Maybe you’re pocketing the money.” It is encouraging to see that I’m not alone in the experience of being frustrated, and having to explain like a broken record that there are costs to be considered. Many Filipinos crave for the word “free!” But in reality, everything has a cost, whether you choose to acknowledge it or not.

  10. Hello, Bro. Bo,

I enjoyed reading your rant, it made me laugh. Some people really think that you don’t need money to pay for the venue, the transportation, etc.

May I know where in California is Bro. Bob Canton staying? I’m here in San Francisco. CA. Just arrived here last Nov.08. I never missed the Kerygma conference when I was still in Davao, & I’m looking forward in attending in the near future anywhere or better still when I get home to the Phils.

  11. yeah, let’s all be human…and let’s al have common sense…peace!

  12. that’s very good!

  13. Bro Bo,

Personally, I try no to rant even in the most provoking situation. Maybe thats the reason I feel bad inside because I didn’t let go of what I feel. But after reading your blog, I guess I should be more open but controlled in my emotional outburst.

  14. hi Bo,

I admire you for boldly sharing your what you felt and you are right in saying that rental for the venue needs to be paid

But in defense of those people who made those reactions, 500 pesos is big deal for Filipinos and people are not used to paying for anything on Kerygma feast. I remember way back 2005, there was a healing session held in Ultra, this was also sponsored by LOJ and the guest healer was a nun from Korea. I cant remember what exactly her name was but we paid nothing for that to think it is the same venue. And for your foreign trips, we believe you are taking care of your airfare (as part of your mission to spread the word of God), has that recently changed?

No offense Brother Bo, I am an avid fan of yours, but I feel for those Filipinos who are excited to hear the words of God delivered by you but due to financial constraint, they won’t be able to.

I suggest ask for sponsors, I am sure there are many companies out there and individuals who would be willing to. Then maybe as incentive, give these sponsors a good spot in the venue then for every one else it’s free.

More power and God bless on the Kerygma feast!

  15. wow! This is very nice. Often, people will easily ask you…let’s go to lunch but you have to pay for it. It’s too easy for them to say it…but are they thinking that you’re working so hard to save a little? It’s nice to share a little to someone else but I hope people will also consider other things than asking anything for free. I still believe in an old saying…it’s better to give than to receive. I do share my blessings but only to those who are worth of my generosity.

    love and light

  16. yeah. i rili understand how you feel bro bo.. and it’s perfectly normal to feel that way when you have done everything to make the event successful and here comes somebody (who probably hasn’t tried organizing an event ) asking you questions that are…well, just “curious inquiries”… it just sometimes gets to you. and you suddenly want to show them all the expenses incurred for the event.

but cheers, it won’t stop you from coming up with successful events! :)

  17. hi bo!

    God bless you!

  18. Rant posts are somewhat disliked in the blogosphere. I’m sorry but I’m tired of many blogs that features rants and snarky posts to gain readers which I’m sure this is not how Bo maintain this blog.

If the rant comes from a “Bo Sanchez”, it should be different from most blog rants. How do you make posting this rant a blessing for your readers? Since I see this is just another blog rant many bloggers also do.

Well, those are just my opinions and I may be wrong.. :)

  19. i agree with you Bro. Bo that people have the best intention. and i honor you for keepng your composure ~ it’s a tough duty and Jesus would want you to do so.

just want to say you are not alone, when my mom died last april, a visitor asked me if i conducted CPR to her (my mom died of cancer, was less than 80 pounds, very frail and had stage 4 cancer ~ she was so thin that i can feel her bones, i might have crushed her chest cavitiy if i tried to do so)? in my mind i thought i was a cartoon caracter with a jack hammer hitting that visitor, but with God’s grace i managed to smile and say i didn’t because i know mom has to join Jesus in heaven…

i wish you well on your upcoming events, im sure God will send you plenty of attendees who are all willing to pay the fee and more :)

  20. hi pare.

i understand where you are coming from but life is not viewed from one perspective only.

giving the conference for free will benefit about 7000 people. that’s great!!! but charging the minute amount of 500 pesos for two days of talks and blessings will enable us all to give to anawim (home for the abandoned elderly), he cares and all the other ministries of bro bo sanchez. i know 500 might be quite a big amount but the conference was announced since last march. that is about 240 days before the conference. that is about 2 pesos per day if you really want to attend. just try not to send a text message to two people and you will be able to go to the conference. and besides we should learn to invest in our spiritual lives.

and i heard that the 500 pesos includes a free meal from yoshinoya which costs 75 pesos. i don’t think that’s too much to ask.

also, i understand that it is bro bo’s mission to spread the word of God. but i also and strongly think that it is not his duty ALONE. we must take part of this too.

sorry for the rant. i just can’t help making a comment about this. i will bring my family to the kerygma conference. see you there.

  21. Blessings to you Bro. Bo!
Thanks for sharing, I really understand your feeling kasi I’m going through it right now. People don’t understand, Yes God’s word is free but to proclaim it is not. It’s amazing kung minsan yung hindi nagbibigay yun pa ang nag question alot. I just answer them in a nice way and understand where they are coming from. You are a blessing to me and to many. I’m praying for you and your ministry.

God Bless you and your family.

  22. i’m glad to hear what you feel bro. bo. for sure you’ve released a lot of negative energies after writing your rants… you’ll be healthier. hehehe.

  23. Hi Bo,

its good to know that you are still human after all.. : ) nasasaktan, naooffend at paminsan minsan nakakapagtaray kung kinakailangan…most people kasi assume na you are so accommodating that no amount of insult can affect you….

dami talagang taong ganyan…nakikita lang nila yung nawawala sa kanila pero hindi nila nakikita yung naibibigay sa kanila.

i know how difficult and costly it is to hold an ordinary event, yun pa kayang grand event gaya ng kerygma conference. so the 500 is just right… ang concert nga ng mga foreign artist thousands pero pinag iipunan ng iba riyan eh to think na 2 hours lang yun…bakit naman sa mas makabuluhang bagay eh binabarat natin di ba…

continue to be God’s blessing to all of us…i’m sure that your higher rewards will be in heaven…

  24. Brother Bo

It’s been awhile since I posted a reply in your site… but I’ve been reading every single one of them ever since…

Anyway… it’s ok to rant. Just rant with some sense… :D
    We are still human…

Thanks for the sharing… God bless

  25. Hello Bro. Bo,
I feel for you. When we organized the Healing Love concert last October I also got those comments and some people thought $20 is expensive because last year we only charged $10 but this time we got a bigger venue. But Praise God!!! It was another miracle concert with all the obstacles you had encountered the Lord is truly faithful and powerful.

  26. what can you say about speakers who makes preaching their bread and butter?

  27. hi bro bo! i admire you admitting your own feelings and letting other people see the human side of you. sometimes people think that when you serve God full-time, you’re not supposed to be ranting, complaining, etc… they place you in a box saying “holy people don’t rant”… but they forget that these people who choose to follow God’s path are also humans who has emotions, pet-peeves, etc… the only difference is that they acknowledge their weaknesses and let God mold them more to be like His.

God bless on your kerygma conference! will be praying for you! and may you continue to inspire more and be used as God’s instrument!!!

  28. Dear Bro Bo,

    I’m inspired by your ranting.
    Yup, thanks bro.
The message to me is that preachers should not be afraid to show that they are human.
    And you did it gracefully.

Now I’m more inspired to be a preacher someday.
    Can you be my mentor?
    Haha.

Even in your ranting, you still bless others.
Continue to be inspired and be guided by the Holy Spirit in all your aspects of life.

Bro, we are praying for you and all the preachers who may sometimes feel weighed down by the very people whom you dedicated to love.
    Keep on loving bro.

    See you in K-Con.

    God bless!

    DIdoy Lubaton

  29. Everything in life is all about cost. People get hurt when it comes to money. This is true in socialist countries. Even throwing garbage (like malfunction refrigerators, oven etc) there is a charge. This is how we learn and manage our money. If you get free, somebody is paying for it. Don’t rely on freebees. Eventually the society will die or go bunkrupt. This is what happening in our society now.

  30. Whenever you share your human side Bro. Bo, I get more connected and feel more related to your teachings…

This article also answered some questions that I try to dismiss whenever it pops out of nowhere…

May God continue to bless you and your family more and more!

  31. It sounds like it is going to be a wonderful 2 days. I wish I could attend. Could you please send me info on how I can send a donation (from the US)? It is to help a few people who really want to go but do not have P500.

  32. Hi Bo,

May God bless you always…. ^_^

  33. This reminds me one time when I was in a beauty parlour in Ottawa. The hairdresser said, “I do not want to cut the hair of Pilipinos”. I asked why? She said “Kasi ang Pilipino mahilig sa libre”.

  34. Will the Katinas play in the middle of the Kerygma Conference activities? or is it a separate event? We were guests on The Edge Radio (a Christian contemporary radio station) a couple of weeks ago and saw the poster of the Katinas live in Manila, with Shepherd’s Voice as main sponsor…nice to know that Catholics and born-again Christians are working together for the glory of God. :-)

  35. thank you bo for sharing your true feelings…i like this one the most…

    God bless! :)

  36. you have always been a good example to all of us bo..
you practice what you preach… we thank God for you.. ok lang to rant, perfectly ok lang : ) you are human after all…: ) God bless you more….

  37. hi bro bo!

i really understand the way you feel right now. a lot of times people really tend to think that spiritual events should be free…nde kasi nila nakikita the whole picture.

i guess these people thought na sa dami ng kilala mong rich people who helps the community (which you’ve always mentioned in some of your post) eh makakakuha kayo ng madaming sponsors to host the event. they probably assumed na yung kcon ngayun will be like the other previous na kcons na libre.

as a suggestion, why not come up with 2 sets of tickets? yung tipong pang general patronage yung isa which will cost lower than 500 pesos. in this way, mas madami ang makakapunta and at the same time makakatulong padin sila sa anawim.

    gudluck on the kcon!
    God bless!

  38. hello bo!

that’s i guess normal and already part of the service but what realy nice there is how you were able to handle such test… as what the saying goes bro. bo…”Patience is a Virtue if you put it into practice.”

Godbless you a wider patience and a deeper wisdom!
and also, long lasting love of the service and inspiring people.

  39. hi bro. bo,

we all go through this kind of day when being sarcastic is a way to rant.

    don’t be hard on yourself.

    God bless!

  40. It just shows how difficult like is these days, especially when it comes to finances. However, P 500 is nothing compared to the blessings in attending the 2-day conference. Besides, ULTRA is never free…and everything is costly.

God bless you always, your family, the LOJ, and all people who are serving with you.

How I wish I can serve God the way you do.

  41. Hahaha! That was refreshing! Thank you for allowing us to see your “human side”! That was brave and bold, indeed! What’s great about it is we learned that:
    1) You can react and feel irritated about some things but you can still choose to RESPOND in a polite and patient way. (Thank you for modelling that, Bro. Bo!) 2) Bo is human!!!

Looking forward to your “inspiring” blog next week, but let me say that this one ISN’T less inspiring!

We love you, too,, Bro. Bo! God bless!!!

  42. Nov. 29 - 30, 2009 ?
    you’re really upset …

  43. This blog is so human but still holy….Praise the Lord for people like you…May you continue to inspire others.

    God bless!

  44. By sharing your issues, we understand your plight more. You showed us that it is ok to express ourselves in a kind way. Thank you

  45. dear bro.bo,
hi! am ana, the one who approach you at dencio’s john hay last dec.2006… almost 2yrs ago… nweiz, last sept.03.. i reserved 2 tickets for kerygma conference… one for me and the other for my bestfriend… when i told her about the ticket… she told me the exact words…“Isn’t God’s Word Free?.. and blah… blah… blah… I said okay, if you don’t want to go with me… FINE! All you need to say is NO… then its done. I understand if you dont want to spend for 500pesos.
I believe people who really dont want something… said so much nega about it… how i wish they spend a little time to think before they said those things… if you dont have something good to say, better be quiet!

  46. Hi, Bo! :) It’s ok to rant. ehehe.. after all, you’re also human. But I really admire the composure. I wish I could be like you too. :)

  47. no ticket, no blessings. hard but true. that’s planet earth. anyway hope affordable cds or dvds of the event coverage will be made available so less fortunate people who could not really afford the P500 ticket or who happened to be living far away from the venue could at least still avail (though very late for sure) of the blessings (if there are still some left) bo has promised during the conference.

  48. hi bo!

it’s ok to rant once in a while, that’s why we have blogs right?! =) i personally kept a blog just so i can pour out what i’m feeling and not let it consume me… just like you, i wouldn’t ever be able to say bad things to others, so i’ll just pour it out in my own little world of blog… we’re only human after all and we can’t help it when we feel irritated… keeping the negative feelings inside can eat us up, throwing them out frees us… once it’s out, i feel better and i feel more understanding… :)

    God bless!

  50. Nagulat ako, it’s my first time to hear such words from Bo. I thought you always take things lightly. Buti na lang naipapakita mo pa ren yung pagiging human mo, Bro. Bo. It’s okay. Definitely okay. People sometimes get illogical lalo na pagdating sa pera. One of my classmates also said nung makita yung libro na binili ko, How to be Truly Rich. Ang mahal daw. Naasar ako. Pero okay lang, at least nakapag invest ako sa isang bagay na makabuluhan. Gaining financial wisdom is expensive talaga. Ganun din sa spiritual things. I know marami naghihirap sa ngayon. In fact, gagalawin ko yung ipon ko makabili lang ng dalawang tickets. I believe I will be blessed, pati yung kasama ko. That’s why it’s okay to spend. 500 may be big for others, pero kung gusto mo talaga ang isang bagay, bakit ka magrereklamo di ba? Yung pag mo mall nga at pagsisine nagagastusan ng iba, and even pagtaya sa lotto, pag attend lang ng spiritual events, sobrang big deal na. Ang weird ng tao, gusto lagi libre. Hayaan nyo na lang po sila. God is using you as His channel of love and blessings. Isipin nyo na lang po yung mga tao nai inspire nyo, hindi yung ibang hindi nakakaintindi.
Anyway, next time ko na lang po ako magdonate ng love offering. Gipit pa po kasi ako. But I’m excited to see you in the Conference. Keep up the good work, Bro. Bo! God bless po lagi!

  51. hi bro. bo,

ranting is ok. you’re human after all. plus it was understandable. also, maybe you could have a kerygma conference in dubai? i’ve been waiting for that since i got here but it never happened(or maybe it did and i just didn’t know?). there are lots of filipinos here who could use your guidance. and i won’t complain if i have to pay for it, promise :-D

  52. ranting Bo. love it

I’ve had more uninspiring rants and I think ranting is healthful. Keeping all those bad feelings inside isn’t psychologically beneficial to anyone.

  53. Dearest Bo,

Haha, you made me laugh at your rant… talagang tutuo kang tao, na nasasaktan at hindi pwedeng okay lang ang sasabihin! You really are a preacher…. We love you BO!

  54. hi, bo!

that’s catharsis! At least you know how to manage your emotions well. Besides your human and you have all the right to be mad, grrr!

hayy, people sometimes can be unreasonable. baka akala nila, libre lang ang venue. Others also want to take part of the blessings but don’t want to invest, money wise. Pcensya ka na lang din sa kanila, ato lang din he he.

don’t worry, eventually people will understand why your charging to your conference. Nothing is free now except dreams.

    GOD BLESS THE KERYGMA FAMILY!!

  55. i think this was Bro. Bo at his finest.

some people make ranting (as in verbal) as an expression of their pent-up emotions. others, those who do not want to offend people straight on, do ranting in their journals or diaries and now, in their blogs.

i think ranting is normal. of course, we are humans, we do that most of the time especially when we get irritated or annoyed at somebody who cannot look at the bigger picture of things no matter how hard we try to explain. kulang na lang we present them a financial statement with all the Official receipts for their eyes to see. but of course, this would be so much a hassle, and unrealistic.

i am sometimes guilty of being particularly doubtful as to where the money spent for a ticket goes. sometimes i think that the money would just go somewhere else, like into the pockets of who-knows-who or whatever.. it is okay to doubt, but sometimes it is more apt to trust with an open mind.

to those who think that the P 500 - ticket must be free, c’mon you guys, if you really want to go, then there is always a means for you to do so. we spend so much on a new pair of jeans or the latest Cybershot or shining shimmering necklaces but we can’t spend that much on something that’s for the spirit?

i once was told by my Quantum Chemistry professor that “sometimes, we do need to invest on the more important things [like education]”. he said that when our class was grumbling about buying the textbook for the subject, a whopping price of P 2, 000+ ! but he made us realize that for now, we may actually feel the effects of subtracting that amount from our pockets, but the long term effects would be so damn great that it would actually overwhelm our whines for the money spent. and i believe he was right.

so Bro. bo, i commend you for doing this blog entry. for some, it may seem to have stained your flawless reputation, but stain or no stain, Bro. Bo, you are still an imperfect human being! and so is the rest of us. holy men are not emotionless at all. they are as real as the rest of us. if you are capable of feeling bitter and angry and all that nega emotions, so am i. and so is bro bo. the only difference is that holy men know how to deal with such nega emotions, and still bless others despite all.

God bless you Bro. bo! and all who support you and your ministries!

  56. I praise and thank the Lord Bro. Bo for your rant. :)
Hindi ka nag-iisa sa ganyang experience, at least now i can use your words if ever i will encounter again such kind of comment. :)

    God bless bro.

  57. Hi Bo,

I too organize fund-raising events for some charity work, hirap mag please ng ibang tao, sometimes mas umiiral yong kanilang selfishness rather than being open minded and thinking first your purpose with any such activity.

Tao lang din po, alam kong some will say, they have the right to say what they feel and think, and siguro ganon din ako which I also have the right to say what I also feel and think.

The Difference is if you are giving a Constructive, Destructive or Selfish Criticism.

  58. kudos bro. bo,

your feelings are your feelings, they are niether right nor wrong. so you have the right to feel bad sometimes, and at this instance, go for it! sometimes messages should be delivered in this manner to be understood. don’t worry, God knows your purpose and i’m sure He wouldn’t mind……..God Bless!

    more power,
    lindy

  59. thanks for being honest bro. i’m quite ranting right now as well, but know that i must choose self control. thank you

  60. YES THAT’S RIGHT! RANT RIGHTLY. MANY TIMES ITS NEEDED TO RANT.

  61. Hi Bo,

I can sense your irritation while reading your rant. Animated as you are and words coming from you even when written comes alive.

I had mixed thoughts about the rant:
    * you might already be so stressed, so tired (not physically, though) you just had to express it - such a thoughtless question becomes a trigger for you to let go of your “brakes”
    * You might have wanted to let the “world of LOJ” know about what goes on “back stage”, especially for those who have no idea about the load of work that takes place behind the scenes
    * The article could have been written as an explanation about the reason for the conference fee, minus the rant
    – you are of course entitled to be irritated. you’re human afterall. Jesus got angry at the money changers in the temple. Then when crucified gently said “Forgive them, they know not what they do.”

So, saan mo ilalagay ang sarili mo? Style mo Bro. Bo. Huwag ka lang susuko. Malaki ang papel mo sa pagpapalapit ng tao sa Panignoon.

    God Bless You!

  62. Hi Bro Bo,

Finally, i am submitting my very first comment.
After the many attempts actually….ngayon lang nangyari ito.

    Di ko lang talaga mapigilan.
Tama lang ‘yan bro. You’re showing the real you…after all, nobody will do it for you and you’re the right man to do it for us…

Minsan kasi masyado lang tayong maangal pagdating sa bayaran para sa gawain ng Panginoon…pero kapag sa kasayahan at pagwawaldas, wala tayong angal.

I think it’s about time that people should know the value of the works for the LORD by sharing our resources and paying reasonable amount to get the best out of it.

    Sabi nga: “Happy are those who dream dreams;
Happy are those who squeeze the best out from the bests and willing to pay the price ot it.

And why not do it for the LORD?
Wala namang dapat panghinayangan di ba?

GOD bless Bo and your family.
I’m also praying that you will also visit us here in Qatar.

  63. haha. ;D

sometimes, ranting proves to be a fun thing to do… hehe. ;P but as all fun things, do it with moderation. xD

…rants, raves or revelations… whatever we say or think (silly or profound); rest assured that God knows our hearts, as well as the goodness and truth that’s within.

    God bless po! ^_^

P.S. you’re not alone sa encounters like that. talamak ang mga ‘reklamador’ everywhere (when it comes to shelling out money for God’s work), in all shapes and sizes; kasi nga siguro, they do not know what happens behind the event - with all the prep and everything else… anyways, ranting is not a sin naman, unless of course, when it hinders one (as well as others) in advancing the Kingdom of God…

    ayun lang, stay well. \m/

and here’s looking for next week’s more inspiring entry. haha.

  64. Bo,

You did not “rant” as far as I’m concerned. You’re too kind. You have to see my blog post for today…(http://tracetrajano.blogspot.com)

“Nothing worthwhile in life comes in for free. Even when you buy a house no money down…you have to “pay” for it. You pay for it by getting the knowledge to learn how to do it or you pay a good mentor or coach so you can be guided how to do it. Someone commented that I should mentor him because “something freely obtained should be freely given” (or something crappy like that). Needless to say I did not give this guy my mentoring for life. Why?

Nothing worthwhile is freely obtained. You have to earn it.”

    Now that is ranting…

  66. People always complain and give unnecessary comments and reactions about almost everything and yet they do nothing to at least be part of the solution. most people now are merely spectators and critics.

Bro. Bo, you are god’s gift to us, your team were god’s gift to us. for most of us who always complains (including me) its really a wonderful opportunity to be with people whose willing to share their time to lift our soul and be able to realize the level of our spiritual journey.

Thank you for your patience and love for us! Thank you for always reaching out and not giving up, Thank you for helping us see the right perspective towards our spiritual endeavors.

The whole team’s effort is priceless! no money can buy such wonderful heart.

    More Power and God Bless!

    Isel

  67. Give until it hurts, di ba? Pero in this case, you’re giving to yourself instead of giving to others. So bakit mo babaratin sarili mo? It just needs a change in perspective. Then the next time you give, it won’t hurt so much!

    God bless!

  68. last year, when Bo came to the University of San Carlos in Cebu to preach, even the campus ministry students tried to raise the 25k needed for him to go there…with a lotta prayers, they did raise that amount, and yet, Bo decided to give it for free. . .maybe because that amount of money really came from the students allowances put together…there are events which really are so expensive that it cannot be given for free, and yet, there still are those which also are free.

the event was in a soccer field and despite the rain, thousands of students came. thanks Bo, for blessing us who attended that event. .thanks for blessing the students who decided to use that amount for the other needs in their campus ministry. .

more blessings for you , too..

  69. Hi Bro. Bo!

I admire you for sharing your real thoughts and being honest with us. It makes us feel that you are being transparent and “real” to us and at some point that you are still human–vulnerable yet trying to fight the urge of doing something wrong/bad.

I would like to thank you for all the words of wisdom you have shared (esp. with this site)…and new insights that you have given me. I pray that may you touch more lives/souls as you did for the many of us (in ways and means God only knew how).

God bless and just like what you used to say: May “YOUR” dreams come true too! :-)

  70. Hi Bro. Bo!

I admire you for your patience. I wish I could also do it just like you. There are really some people who gets into our nerves. Yun nga lang ang asar talo . . I congratulate you and your staff in advance for the Kerygma conference. I know how hard it is to organize such an event (it’s also a part of my job) . . .God bless!

  71. I have to admit that sometimes I do ask as well why some events in the Christian community I am in can’t come free. Growing up I have a lot of missed opportunities to join activities primarily because I cannot afford to join i.e. out of town activities, youth camps etc.. But every ‘free’ or ‘cheap’ activity I do find time to join them. Or if I pray to God enough some good Samaritan will shoulder a portion of the expense.

I know that God’s word is for free but during times like those I would ask why only those who can afford it can hear God’s word… I would always say that God will provide. But I know our God is a God of possibilities…*sigh*

This entry just made me remember how life has been for me, and now that God gave me the means to afford joining such activities somehow I can’t find time to join in one…How ironic. Eye opening. Thanks!

Who knows, Bro. Bo, maybe someday you can host an event as big as the Kerygma Conference and it could be free for all - wouldn’t that be fun. May you find your good Samaritan with a of big venue/piece land that includes sounds, light, projectors etc etc. So those who can’t afford it won’t have an excuse not to come.

May you grow wings to fly so you can bring good news at any part of the world. Hopefully with big beaks too so you can carry passengers like a stork, you can bring you family! Kidding! God Bless.

  72. This is funny Sir Bo! No need for apologies.. You are right! Nothing is for free now a days. What is 500p if you will see again the path of good life?

  73. Bro. Bo,

just like the good samaritan in the Bible, with his good heart, he was able to help the man, but part of helping the man is to pay the innkeeper. Money plays a big part in our mission to help the needy and spread the good news of our Lord.
I think , instead of asking why was the conference not free,
let our life be blessed and think of how we can send other people in the conference free by paying for them.

and for the Kerygma Conference 2009, let us start saving money so we can send more bros and sis for free and be like the good samaritan.

  75. there is nothing wrong with expressing your own feelings Bro. Bo.. but i guess if the goal of the conference is to reach out .. i guess there should be distinction between those who can afford and those who cannot.. The crisis that we facing right now would eventually lead us to question such things.. especially those who don’t have work.. i agree .. probably you could have 2 sets of tickets .. for those who can afford and those who cannot..

  76. Oo nga no? I think naitanong ko rin yang question na yan sometime ago (nung parents ko pa lang ang active sa aming parish activities)… Sorry. But come to think of it, kung may pang-gastos ako sa mga materyal na bagay, cellphone load, damit, shoes, food, etc., why should i not spend for this one di ba? Why will i expect something like this to be free? Bakit pagdating sa Godly events, kailangan libre.. dapat yan nga ung ginagastusan ko di ba.. dapat sya ung expensive.. dapat sya ung mas may value. And since na-mention mo din ang number of people na sumusweldo sa mga events na ganyan, im glad nakakatulong tayo in this way to keep people having jobs. Hmm, now, pag may na-encounter din ako na ganyang situation, i have something to tell them back (don’t worry, i’ll explain it in the mildest tone).

Well, Bro. Bo, bigla lang pumasok ang emosyon ko. Kasi meron din kami ngayong fund raising para sa pagpapatayo ng parish church sa loteng donated ng Ayala. And people would say: “Bakit pa nagso-solicit ang simbahan, e ang yaman yaman na nyan”. Italian po ang aming parish priest/congregation, so they have this thinking na dapat iasa sa kanila lahat.

Anyway, we need to be strong for them. May mga moments lang but we’re not saying we’re giving up.

    Ciao! :)

  77. Congratulations! You’re human. I love your honesty. Because sometimes there are leaders who act as if , — “How can you not do this or that? Leader ka na sis/bro?” —– Parang napaka-HOLY o HOLIER THAN THOU. Thank you for your inspiring us to be honest with ourselves and to be human not rebulto. God bless you Bro.

  78. hI Bro Bo! i really enjoy your rant! Thanks for being YOU! I learned that i too must be honest in my emotions. God bless

  79. This is why I admire you so much. It’s nice to know that someone as awe-inspiring as you could be human and very easy to relate to. I rant almost always (and have three blogs to prove it) and I am glad about this post, I enjoyed it so much.

It also reminds me that I have to be respectful in explaining to people as I have this tendency to be blunt in your face and speak my mind. Not all people like that.

    God Bless, brother.

  80. Hello Uncle Bo,

Calculating the registration fee is really one of the hardest parts in conferences. I’m a Youth for Christ - Langyaw here in iligan City and we’re hosting a City Wide Campus Conference on the November 29-30 2008..same days as the Kerygma Conference :) and we’re really trying hard to find the adequate venue and balance all other expenses to come up with an affordable registration fee for the participants. But in whatever we do in serving God is victory is always a promise when we lift all to Him :) Anyway, the irritating albeit “clueless” people give us so much opportunity to be patient, kind and tact…although in our minds we are otherwise.. My regards to Uncle Alvin Barcelona..I met him in his “Walk of Faith” Concert here in iligan. Maybe he remembers me :) I gave him a letter.. God bless Uncle Bo!:)

  81. bro. Bo….
that’s what most of the critics reactions…. they think that if someone is doing “service” and when it’s related to our Faith and talk about our Service and Mission related to Spiritual Growth…they thought it’s for FREE and for them it is not right to charge or to collect money from them according to their level of Standard.
I really admire and salute you… for your reactions…that we are IN “Planet Earth” and to add …there are times that we have to pay for “Oxygen” from the hospital if we didnt control our emotion…. it’s happened to many.
With God grace, hopefully people may understand that as an “Annointed Preacher” and Blessed to share the Words of God that Blesses many families in so many ways around the globe., “You’re still Human” not a Bird as you said, CAN NOT FLY to the place you want reach to spread the “Good News” the Practical and Realistic approach on how to face and handle our life and make use of our very own resources as God given gift to individual, to discover all the blessings our Provider wants us to enjoy while on earth. As what happened lately, soon with God’s favour on you and to your “family in Christ ” through your continous education and unconditional commitment and love may you be more strong as we are all inspired with your dedication and hardwork for your missions. Having us with your service, we considered a great blessing everytime you come to Singapore. It is very important to have proper education in differet aspect of life so other may know how to react in every situations. May you blessed many people with your teachings. Mabuhay!

  83. i find myself in the same situation but different setting. and boy oh boy you are hilarious! a funny, nice way of giving a rant. :) you’re still inspiring! :)

  84. hi Bro. Bo,

Your really such a good person ^^ i admire your patience and how your handling the situation.

  85. It’s okay Bro. Bo. Each and everyone of us rant sometimes, if not, most of the time. That’s the human in us. We cannot really please everybody, but those who believe in your cause, we understand. God bless you and the Light of Jesus Community.

  86. Hi Bo,

Rant on! This is YOUR blog. You can write anything here. Besides, the way you’re ranting is still so mabait in that it is 100% honest.

Nabasa ko lahat ng comments. Most of them are cheering you on but there are some who are suggesting how to come up with free tickets. Plus there are few who find that ranting has no place in a blog such as this.

I say carry on. You have the right to charge because you are not getting the venue and overhead for free. Besides, aside from the fact that proceeds (or part of it) will go to charity, you also have the right to put some spending money in your pocket. Kung hindi, you might as well just give up the ministry and be a regular employee/businessman/whatever and just care for your family. But don’t cuz we don’t want you to do that. Your ministry needs you!

Go ahead, collect. You have every right! And go ahead, rant all you can. You have every right.

Oh I’m so excited about the conference! See you there!

    ~Gracey

PS: I’ll bring as many friends as I could. Walang libre-libre, KKB!

    ^_^

  87. wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

such a very enlightening and inspiring article hahaha…i’ve learned a lot..

im guilty with that haha (prang nauntog bigla ung ulo ko ah) sakit nun ah..but now i learned..
whatta shame..im sorry for that Lord.

I promise next time..i better think first before to react…

thanks Bro. Bo for making me aware..

    Godbless you always..
    keep safe!!!!

  88. […] helps in that delivery. Many of us take it for granted that the church ought to pay for everything. Bo’s blog reminded me that i ought not be stingy with my money when it comes to receving more graces and […]

  89. Hi Bro Bo,
Don’t worry brother Bo you are not the only one who rants in their thoughts. I do that a lot but lately my emotions bur me out. But I understand my feelings better now. Thabk you for reminding me.
God bless you… Looking forward to the K-con….

  90. On the second thought we don’t solve a rant with a rant. We don’t condone it, excuse it or praise it. This is the exact opposite of a godly attitude. We fail to remember that it is God who gives provision.

(Philippians 4:8) Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

“God’s commands are meant to protect us from sin and heartache. Compromise can look tempting and even advantageous, but taking one step off the high road makes the next step even easier.”

We should rather remember our prayer “Lord, do not bring us to the test but deliver us from evil”.

    Test is very real.

  91. bro.bo,

  92. Well, what can i say? Im a Filipino, hahaha. Masarap ang libre! Pero guys naman, if you really want something, how much ever is the charge, you will go for it di ba? Anything which will make us truly happy, bow ako ryan, kahit magkano. The Kerygma Conference will, I assure you that! So why whine on a very minimal amount of P500? Come on people! hahaha May utang pa nga tayo sa taas, remember we were supposed to return 10% of our earnings to Him. I doubt kung nagagawa natin lagi yan hahaha. God bless you Bro. Bo. I attended your truly rich seminar and i paid promise, hehehe, it s really worth it! Thanks a lot!

  93. It’s going to be normal nowadays for people to react like that. Some wanted to be there but for P500 yeah I think they will have their say about that. People would rather go and eat rather thatn do that. Why Ultra may I just ask? Is there a lot of Kerygma members who will join the crowd? Will it ne full since some complain about P500. I think we’ll have to consider some participants who wanted to hear the word of our Lord but cannot afford that. You’ll just have to make some considerations on this. Just posting my thoughts. I am not against.

  94. Hi Bro Bo,

Just want to share the link to an insteresting article with you. This was shared to our group by my co-distributor. It may not be directly related kasi you were talking about a spiritual event. Pero it definitely helps us, Reliv Distributors, when some people ask “Why does Reliv let distributors earn from selling the
products? If your mission is to Nourish the World, why don’t you sell
    products at a lower price?”

    http://www.naturalnews.com/Report_Mindful_Wealth_0.html

Thanks for continuously blessing the world! =)

    Cris

  95. So realistic and I don’t think you need to apologize for being honest; hahaha sometimes it takes honest words to make us realize our shortcomings.

This post made me realize why we are asked to give. You’re right that people in that stadium worked for a LIVING. How can they have a decent life if people don’t pay them for their service (exerting time, effort, and hopefully love for what they do)? Life is about give and take to keep a balance! (^_^)

I love your thoughts Bo! Thanks to God for giving you to us - showering us with inspiration.

  96. Dear Brother Bo,

Hello! Just dropping by to say “it’s still goes back to perspective and values.”

If one values something enough, one would be willing to pay for it. For instance, I notice some people would willingly pay for an expensive haircut, or shoes or cellphone or expensive mags for the car or a nice plate number (yes you pay for those) but not willing to pay for a good education or a wonderful seminar or conference. Hahaha

Hmmm… Humans can be downright silly and ridiculous at times but we love them anyway. That’s why I know you rant and rave and still end up doing good. Sending warm hugs to you, marowe and the family. Hi Kuya Alvin, Tes and Aio. And Sis Rissa and Chris! You guys take care and keep the wonderful work of the Lord going!

    God bless,
    Michelle (ripplemaker)

  97. Bo,

By this article, I personally realized what you wanted to say. I had these thoughts before but I chose not to voice it out.

Ngayon narealize ko na may babayaran pala. this article should have been written long time ago. Hahahaha. Seriously. Kasi, hindi ko tlga naisip un. Sorry for having that thought, buti na lang hindi ko sinabi. May pagkareklamador ako in some ways. hahaha.

Thanks for this article. Indeed, it was a wake up call for me.

Ingat lagi. See you again here in SG.

    Always.
    Glenn

  98. I know your hurt more than irritated..coz thats something you dont want to be branded of..I know if it is possible youll give it for free just like before..maybe youll get lots of sponsors but how about those that will benefit from it? di ba naisisp nlang nila na donation na nila yun makakatulong pa yun kung iniisip nila na sobra yun plus theres no amount of money that can fill the joy, blessings and learning theyll get from the conference…many people will think that way kasi wala naman dun ang puso nila, kundi pagduda agad..lets just pray they will understand and have a happy and giving heart.

  99. Hi Brother Bo,
Mama and I just read this blog of yours, and we share the sentiments of most who replied here. Ok lang yan, nakaka-relate nga kami eh. We even admire you for admitting things like these and you’re able to retain your composure kahit naasar ka na. We’ve noticed that as you end this entry, you felt a lot better (hehehe…).
I also understand the sentiments of those who says that your seminars and the KCon must be free. They have their reasons.
Thanks for sharing this to us Brother Bo! Dami kong natutunan sa entry na ito…
Love and Peace to all! ^_^

  100. Brother Bo,

  101. Hi! Bro Bo,

well, that’s typical for Filipinos. When its comes to the Lord, they’re expecting it to be FREE. . . .but for other stuff . . . . well . . . they’re willing to pay much huh?! . . . what you felt and how you reacted was just normal and what you’ve told her is true anyway. . . . besides, if they think paying 500 is not worth it. . . .its not your loss anyway. I really admire how you deal with people, I can imagine your facial reaction - yup! you’re irritated deep inside but still you managed to SMILE. . . . that’s why you’re super blessed. Have a nice day! :-)

  102. well, nothing is free in this world.
I look forward to that Kcon. I’ll see you there brother Bo!!!!

  103. i understand that as a human we are prone to rant… but to be honest, the article does not give me a very good impression.. im sorry for that but just like you im just expressing myself as well. i understand that every events that you are organizing will spend money… but how can you reach out more to the poor who needs a lot of spirituality if they have to pay a large amount… i dont say it should be free.. how i just wish that someone who has a big heart will sponsor it for free… and i think rant like that should not discusse publicly but of course you are entitled for expression of your feelings just like i do.. it does not leave me a good impression that someone will get mad about money matters.. after all it is not really important.. as they said.. God will always provide..

  104. Dear Bo,

although it’s been a long time since i subscribe in soul food it’s my first time to leave a reply…

bo, it’s good that you share your thoughts and feelings with that kind of situation. naiinis ka din pala! ahihihi! the difference is that you always able to control yourself and explain your side calmly even in a constraint situation. in that way, you never lose respect for others.

if i am in your place that time, i’m sure tinarayan ko na sila. hihihi! i am impatient and hot tempered person… but through this blog, i’ve learned how bo handle those difficult person and situation.

  105. Hi Bro Bo!
that was funny! as always, you never fail me in your blogs. Simply written but great in impact! Am just so blessed to listen and read your blogs. it’s all true!! that just proves that the meek and gentle Bro. Bo can also get irritated.
Well, we have to agree that there are really people who don’t seem to get it. It is true that the Word of God is for all. But in our times now, not everybody has the capacity to shoulder everything. It doesn’t follow that when you preach you are the only one responsible for everything. We all need to do something for His words to get propagated. Anyway, we are all servants of God. We are still here on earth and everything has a cost. Even the water we drink has a cost! I just hope that we all get educated in issues like these. I for one learned it where I came from. But the catch is, the leader should be true to his intentions and be honest to all his members and of course to God. It’s a sad case when one just covers up things. Better to be true to everybody. I honor you Bo for the honesty. May all leaders be Human!
Still have to grab my tickets for the Kcon…
    Be well to all….

  106. Hi Bo,

When are you going back here in winnipeg?

We all hope to see you.

  107. Hi Bro Bo,

Can someone tell me when did it rain money in the streets of Manila? (Wow, wala na sanang naghihirap pag ganito)

God will provide - and I have no doubts about this. However, we as christians must also realize that financial provision will not come like a rain pouring upon us. He would use other people to channel these blessings.

When my family started our journey in renewing our lives, it was never easy or cheap. We have to drive from Cavite to Quezon City (this is a 2.5 hours travel during peak hours) just to attend prayer meetings. We give our love offering and then we drive by a gotto place on our way home - syempre gutom na. If my two boys would make a request when driving home, dad, can we buy food sa jollibee?… lalung napamahal.

No doubt, if I started complaining about our expenses and not counting the blessings we received for attending our prayer meetings, teachings and conferences, wala kami dito for sure.

Kapatid, let us not give until it hurts but rather give even when it hurts.

I hope and pray that all of us would be blessed abundantly by our Lord!

  108. hi Bro bo,

hahahaha… yes i was laughing after i read this, you are after all just human, but still in a good sense, just being true to your feelings.

Anyways, i pray that God will continue to bless you materially so you can share all HIs Words to many of us….

    God bless

  109. that’s ok brother bo… yep, we’re all human. it’s bad if you don’t let your anger out, i beleve it’s the underlying cause of heart diseases and cancer…

and you have an inspiring way to rant… you really are one great guy and God loves you…

    take care…

  110. hi bro bo!
.wow! you are such an honest person bro. this message of yours makes me admire you more.

.even though your ranting i.m still learning something in this article. n_n
    ., God bless bro bo.,
    .take care!

  111. Hi Bo,
I like the way you rant, i can feel your irritation but you still manage to be cool about it. It’ s nice that you can share your feelings with us. Even while you’re ranting you’re still inspiring us. It only shows you’re human and get irritated sometimes. Just share your angst with us and we are here to pray for you to have more patience with these kind of people.
    God Bless and more power.

    Jean

  112. this is cool…now I know that you’re also human like me….keep it up sir…for being real..

  113. My hands are shaking but I’ll continue writing anyway, past wounds didn’t pull me down Bo. But it definitely have shaken me until now. This is the first time I’m going to see you Bo. I am so nervous, excited and so willingly ready to be transformed by God through you. The ticket I bought doesn’t say what time will the conference start though… I’ve asked around already the info i got is “it is a 2day conference”.

as I’ve told a friend I am thirsty. I pray that this will be God’s way of quenching my thirst.

I am not asking you to help me Bo.
I just want you to know that this will be my first time. Probably there will be thousand of first timers like me who will be there. Just keep that in mind okay?

May God continue to use us both Bo.

    Nyt.

  114. Dear Bo,

I dont know if you still remember me as one of your students in the Financial Literacy workshop.

Thank you for sharing your true feelings regarding the Lord’s work. Even, the Savior Jesus Christ had some ranting when he was very hungry he cursed the fig tree as it did not bear any fruit.

He later related a parable regarding the fig tree and its personal application to us and his followers.

I know the Lord’s work is not easy but it is worth it.

    God Bless,

  115. Hi Bo!

Wow, you really poured out your feelings on this! And I would want to “second the motion”. I too am serving the Lord by helping my bestfriend, the liturgy committee head of my former highschool, organize events, especially the living rosary, even until now that I’m working. The questions or comments we hear may not be the same as yours, but they may also convey the same message: Why do we have to spend this amount of money for a living rosary? Make it simple instead.

It is really saddening that people look down on liturgy events as maybe not as important as other “more important” events, that’s why a very small budget is alloted every year for us to work around with. Most of the time, we have so much zeal and passion to encourage more young people to serve God like us, which results to such passionate, wonderful and most of the time extravagant and expensive plans and the budget constriction oftentimes hinder them from being reality.

But on second thought, maybe, in these times, we are being tried of our faith and trust in God that He will provide no matter what. And He really does. He really continues to bless us and these are the same blessings we use to give back the glory to Him thru the liturgy events we organize. Much more important, we are able to use God’s blessings, material or spiritual, to be able to become blessings to others.

Friends, what we could do is to think that the P500 is not simply a fee to pay for all the bills for the conference. I hope that as we give the P500, the same blessing that God has given us, we are able to share our blessing to the community and that as we help the community fund the conference, we also help them to bless more and more people in the conference.

God bless everybody and see you all in the KCon!

    Love

  116. Thank you for sharing not only your good qualities but in this case, also your seemingly bad tendencies. Thanks also for sharing that even with your ‘godliness’, you’re still after all human and weak to which we can relate and somehow, remind or assure us that it’s not terrible at all to feel a certain way sometimes.

Well, the thing is who wouldn’t want a “free ticket” anyways, whether they’re Filipinos, Americans or whatever. I’m sure if only you can, you’ll do the Kerygma conference for free. But in life, there’s always cost (may not each time be monetary) and the fact is, it is not a free ride (though sometimes it appears that it is). So, don’t worry too much about it. After all, you can’t at all time please everybody.

    Cheers!

  117. hi everyone! — anger? yes, all of us have experience this irksome feeling, that if not properly handled would lead us to do some things that we’d regret later on. i think it’s somewhat sort of defense mechanism to maintain one’s sanity. ha ha. you can either run away from it / avoid it ; or face it / deal with it. whichever way, the goal is to remove anger from our system to give way to joy, peace and forgiveness. we are reminded to never go to bed at night without making peace with everyone. yes, to be angry is human they say, but to forgive is divine.
    be happy everyone!
Thanks much Bro. Bo.for this precious space.
    God bless us all.

  118. hi Bro. Bo, its my first time to give a comment here..i had a hard time going to this particular area where i can read the “submit a comment” because of the huge comment above…well, not so surprising ,,your Bo, still ….the famous..

ok..just want to say i admire you..all your works…A LOT.

    i’ ll be at the conference….so excited…

    STAY BLESSED!

  119. Thanks Bo,

As humans we have emotions. I am always thinking how to handle it when you’re fed up. Dati naranasan ko na magdilim ang paningin ko nang nag away kami ng asawa ko. Mali pala na nagkikimkim ng galit sometimes you have to speak it out or write it out.
Have a nice day! God Bless.

  120. I understand you perfectly brother bo… it is also right that people who doesn’t have ideas about running events be enlightened that spirituality is free but seminar venues ,maintenance labor and sound system aren’t.

I manage a media office before and a lot of offices in the company envy us coz we always had high budget costs…what they don’t understand is that… I also needed to buy tapes, films, stage materials, sound system spare parts, food for the working staff, gas and etc… they would always compare the work of a desk clerk to the work of multimedia and visual artists…

it is high time that people should try to understand things first before opening their mouths to compain about things they don’t understand.

be blessed brother bo… I hope you won’t get burned out trying to be patient with people of little understanding.

  121. Hi Bo!

Honestly, I enjoyed reading your rant and I admire you for sharing what you truly feel at times. I certainly can relate. I am an active servant in our church and I can’t help but be saddened sometimes when still there are more christians who boldly proclaim their love for the Lord yet do not have the generous heart to tithe nor to bring back what is due for the works of God. They don’t realize that a church will not also stand without funds. Sometimes I also want to be bold on this issue yet I know its not the right and proper way of explaining matters regarding tithes to people.

Anyways, thanks for all your words of inspiration. We may differ in religion but we will continue to be brothers in Christ. We may be taking different roads yet our destination will certainly be the same and I’ll look forward to seeing you there. Continue to be a blessing to others. God bless you indeed!

  122. i dunno why this post bothers me, bo.

i am one of your avid readers, i even acknowledge you as one of my mentors. i understand your predicament, honest. it just bothered me, that’s all.

since you already said your piece, explained your side and made us ‘understand’ your reasons for ranting and collecting, let me also express what i think that is. believe me, i am NOT judging you or your intentions, i am just wondering WHY.

surely, i am entitled to a few questions:

    1) you collect P500 for your logistical requirements, right? so that means if i do not have P500, i will not be able to attend to your conference. that means i will have to ’settle’ with going to mass at the local church. in that case, the poorer of the poor will not have the privilege of hearing the word of God from your mouth. only the rich can afford the blessing of Bro. Bo? that sounds like EXCLUSIVITY to me.

    2) i dunno how the Kerygma family works, but my mother has been a member of the El Shaddai community for years now and there was no mention of an entrance fee. as for tithes, no SPECIFIC amount was mentioned in their love offering.

sure, Bro. Mike was richer and owned a vast land that can accommodate throngs of people. but my mother attends the ‘Gawain’ with or without a love offering. the poorest of the poor are attending the gawain and are blessed in the same way as the attendees of your conference! and i guess that’s the very reason why the El Shaddai people is growing in numbers, it’s because there is no exclusivity, no discrimination and best of all, there is NO entrance fee!

i thought God said: ‘Blessed are the cheerful givers.’ that did not specify an amount. one must give what he ought to give according to the fire burning in his heart.

sorry but i have to RANT as well…
    ehrm!
    more of expecto-RANT pala…

    geesh.

  123. Hello Bo,

I love the fact that you are allowing yourself to share your truth in the most spontaneous of ways. I see it has drawn varied reactions and that is the beauty of it all. You have given the opportunity for others to express their own truth thereby providing a chance for them to reflect on matters that they value most in this present moment.

Without many realizing it, this Rant has become a Therapy of sorts where feelings of confusion, anger, guilt, relief, hope, amusement etc…are expressed freely. Those who posted have gained the courage to express themselves as you have without the fear of being condemned or judged. Thank you for leading by example. I must say it is an out of the box way of teaching.:)

I love this post and I love you. My best to your sisters, mom and family. Godbless.

  124. Hello Bo!

I feel guilty! first, because I received a free ticket for the Kerygma conference from you, Second it is the only time that I realize that it will cost me P500.00 to attend the 2 day KCon if you have not provided me a free ticket. I intend to be there with or without this free ticket I presumed that it is free admission, Not because I am not aware of the cost of staging an event like this but I also presume (too much) that some good Samaritans sponsored this event.

I want to tell the world that if only you can give free tickets to all, you will. On second maybe you will not, because if it is freely given, it is not valued much by the receiver di ba!

Thank you for the free books, Kerygma Magazine, Soulfood letters that you are sending me free. I have to make an extra effort to give more para mawala ang guilty feeling ko na hindi pala ako nakakatulong.

Godbless to all of us Bro Bo. Let’s thank the Holy Spirit for giving us the gift of understanding and to pray for the pouring of this gift to all of us here.

  125. hi Bo!
we’re only but human so gtting irritated sometimes is natural….what matter is that you’re being true to yourself….as an the adage goes……. “the truth will set you free” good luck on the forthcoming kerygma seminar….God Bless always…..

  126. Hello Bro. Bo,

I understand you for feeling that way and also admire you for your honesty. I like the fact that you realize that those people were asking with good intentions and they want it free so more people can come and be blessed.

I also want to be honest with you. I felt a little sad, or should I say disappointed when I first read this post, it took me a while before I decided to write this comment. I have been reading Kerygma ever since its price was still 15.00 per copy. I still remember stories from your “medieval-Assisi days” and how you used to pray “Lord, please make me die a martyr’s death.” I have bought and read two of your books - Your Past Does Not Define Your Future and 8 Secrets of the Truly Rich (would certainly love to buy more if not for budget constraints). Somehow, I have followed your life and principles and have welcomed the changes that happened to you along the way. I am not a fanatic but I look up to you as my guide and God’s instrument.

You told us the story about the time when you had to count first your money (including coins) before you could eat at Jollibee and oftentimes, you had to walk away because you didn’t have enough. You wrote about the time a woman came up to you to ask for prayers so she can enroll her daughter and how you wanted to just give the 700 pesos enrollment fee but you only had 20 pesos. Bro. Bo, you have gone a long way from those times. You are now very successful. But once upon a time you were there, in that situation. There are people now who are still there but are hoping and doing their best to also become successful like you. But for now, 500 pesos is not so easy to raise for these people.

  127. Here is what I think:

As much as Bro. Bo and the whole community would really want to give the conference for free, they would need to ask for a fee for attendees of the conference because the conference and the Feast are not the only activities that the community has been financing. They have a lot of other ministries and communities that they’ve been helping with their finances too. Also, Bo has been providing us with free soulfood newsletters, Kerygma magazines, books, even free talks we see in PIBJ!

May we understand that organizing big events such as the Kerygma Conference is not easy, and most of all, not easy on the pocket. People who have organized like events will certainly agree.

I even read just this morning that there are already tickets worth P100! And mind you, you don’t have to be in the P500 area to be blessed, the huge speakers will make sure that God’s message reaches you and your heart! :D

Let us all pray (and work hard too!) that God will bless us so that we could help more in the community up to the point that the Kerygma Conference will be free for all. Hehe!

God bless! Easy lang tayo. :D

Isa pa: If you know of people who really need to be in the conference and really, really doesn’t have the means to come, give the ticket as a gift. It would be a great Christmas gift to hear God speaking to you thru this event. :D

  128. i still believe we are entitled to “righteous” anger…

    God bless!

  129. Dear Bro,

As the late great LOUIE BELTRAN said,”Nothing is free in the land of free!!

  130. Good luck on the forthcoming kerygma seminar. I know it will be a huge success. God bless!

  131. brother bo,
It is good that you make people realiaze that not evrythilng is free. All events needs money and work.

I can’t come for the conference but I pray for its success. May many people will be blest.

    God bless you always,
    rita

  132. its a good thing atleast they know and understand now where their money will go and how it will flow!..
i really love to attend on you conference, if ever, this is my first time pero wala po ako makasama sa amin.

more power and good luck this coming K-conference!
    May God Bless us all!

  133. br. bo,

    i admire your honesty.
he/she is too stupid not to think abt the rent, etc.

my mom and i are going to attend on your conference.

    see you there!

  134. hello bro. bo.. its ok to rant because sometimes even the air that we breath is not free.. ask them if they died they will burried for free?? hehehe.. bcoz even death is not free..

  135. Hi Bo!

Great post. I could not understand why I took notice of this post only now. Anyhow, thanks to “Taur” (http://amomsnewbeginning.blogspot.com) who visited my site. I went to her site too and she talked about your “rant.”

Anyhow…the next words are not for Bo, but for those who think things should be free.

    Here I go…

Point #1. When it’s free, do you value it? I mean, really.

They say, “the best things in life are free.”

I believe the only people who can really say that are those who are paying their dues.

Truth is, when things are all free…we take them for granted!

Point #2 is about financial stewardship.

Let us love God with our finances.

There are Catholics who don’t pay tithes. No, I am not referring to love offerings of a few pesos in Church on Sundays. I am referring to a deliberate effort to allocate a fixed percentage of your net income to the Church, month in and month out.

Fact is, God expects us to “return” a portion of what we earn to the source of our spiritual growth.

Maybe you’re paying tithes, and maybe you’re not. But do we have this attitude of returning to God’s work a portion of what we get from God’s abundance?

Point #3 is about common sense.

In truth, there is no such thing as “Free.” When you want something for free, you are actually asking the world to pay for you.

Sometimes, yes, that happens. When it does, do we say, “Thanks!”

But then, to expect it all the time for the world to pay for you makes you what?

Those are my takes in the “rant” …

    God bless everyone!

  136. Dear Bro Bo and All,

All I can say is this, “Kerygma Conference” is really near, actually, tomorrow na! Aren’t you excited…to awaken the miracle within….if you are, so let us forget all those “unwanted allusion “…lalo ka na Bro Bo, many are excited to see and listen to your words, old and new fans… so what are we waiting for?…be ready and be blessed! Good luck to all!

  137. HI brother bo, we were there at the kerygma conference yesterday, and Gosh, its worth the 500php, i really felt the holy spirit that time, i can’t describe the feeling i have, it was fantastic. I am superblessed.I already feel the miracle is coming in my life now…Thank you, Thank you Jesus for giving us brother Bo Sanchez, and the rest of the speakers…what is 500php for that wonderful day full of praises and Gods word, and life changing moment for me..Thanks God…Thanks BO

  138. sayang…

  139. I wish I could attend another session here in Cebu. I’ve only attended once and it was several years ago. =(
