Be A Sponge And Absorb God’s Blessings!

“Bo, I feel God plays favorites.”

“Why do you say that?” I asked my friend.

“Because He doesn’t bless me as much as He blesses you!”

That’s when I shared to her Matthew 5:45. For he makes his sun to shine on bad and good people alike, and gives rain to those who do good and to those who do evil.

God doesn’t play favorites.

I believe God’s blessings are everywhere.

Like rain, blessings are poured into your life.

Do you need love?  It’s out there.

Do you need wisdom?  It’s out there.

Do you need healing?  It’s out there.

Do you need miracles?  It’s out there.

Do you need increase? It’s out there.

But why don’t we receive them?

Let me tell you why…

Do You Repel His Blessings?

When rain falls on a stone, it repels the water.

When God pours His blessing on some people, they repel them.  Like my friend, these are the people who complain that God doesn’t bless them.

But the problem isn’t the lack of supply.

The problem is the lack of readiness to receive the supply.

How do you repel God’s blessings?

When you feel you don’t deserve to be blessed.

When you think that God doesn’t want to bless you.

When you believe that life is all about suffering.

So the blessing is right in front of them, but they don’t recognize God’s blessings.  So they don’t receive them.

Absorb His Blessings!

       Don’t be a stone.

Be a sponge instead!

When water touches it, it absorbs.

It saps it up.  All of it!

I’m convinced that God wants to bless you.

But you have to receive His love.

You have to absorb His blessings.

You need to say YES to his plan to bless you.

But there’s no question about it—God has already blessed you.  All His blessings are available to you now.

Yesterday, at the Grand Easter Feast, so many people became a sponge.  They received God’s blessings by the bucketful.

Were You There Yesterday?

Yesterday, I preached on Overcome—How To Turn Stumbling Blocks Into Stepping Stones.  (Next Monday, I’ll share that message to you here in Soulfood.)

Today, I’d like to share some photos of that fantastic event with you.  So that even if you weren’t there, at least you’d get a feel for what happened.

Here’s the massive hall of SMX (beside Mall of Asia) before the event began.  Lovely place, don’t you think?

Before an event, I like staying in a quiet room to pray.

Until my kids come in.  Then forget about quiet!

If you notice, I’m wearing white.  I felt like I was a doctor.  But I also invited everyone to come in white to symbolize Easter’s promise of new life.  So when I went out, I didn’t feel queer.

This was amazing: 9000+ people came yesterday!

Actually, we asked SMX to set-up 7300 chairs, thinking this was enough.  But by 8am, people came in like a tidal wave.  In a snap, the SMX staff brought out ALL their available chairs.  But they still weren’t enough.  (Sorry for those who didn’t have seats.)

From the backstage, I looked at the audience.  I cried.  I prayed, “Lord, I love these people.  Thank you for giving them to me as my fantastic friends.  What a wonderful flock I have!”

As usual, George Gabriel led fabulous worship.  In between the songs, Randy Borromeo (our director) and his team created inspiring video testimonies.

Extraordinary performances from my friends Alvin Barcelona, Obet Cabrillas, Adrian Panganiban, Jon Escoto, Rissa Singson-Kawpeng, and Arun Gogna.  I just love seeing them perform.  My friends are bursting with incredible talent, I feel so small beside them.

The musical numbers were just super awesome.  Can you imagine how many top-caliber singers, musicians, and dancers were needed to make all this happen?  To all those who served—a big thank you from my heart.

After the Holy Mass, worship, testimonies, etc, I felt I didn’t even have to preach anymore.  People were so blessed already.  But I still had to preach.  Or my Mom would kill me.

In fact, I even asked her to stand beside me on stage.  And read a brief history of Light of Jesus.  We celebrate 30 years together!  (Note: Mom here is 84 years old.  Her name is Pilar.  And she indeed is a pillar of Light of Jesus.)

I launched my newest book, Choose To Be Wealthy.  After the event, I had a very long book signing session.  I probably signed a thousand books!  But here’s a secret: I enjoyed doing it.  I just love meeting people and making them smile.

Here’s a cover of my newest book—front and back.  They’ll be available in the bookstores soon.  (Note: I donate 100% of my book royalties to God’s ministry.)

Hey, I don’t think of you just as my reader.

I see you as my friend.

Thank you for being a part of my life.

I love you.  (Sorry for becoming sentimental.)

(I wish to thank my nephew, Marco Victoria, for these photos. If you want the studio to go to you, log on to www.shmile.com.)

 May your dreams come true,

       Bo Sanchez

  2. sayang, wala kami sa Pinas… we would have loved to be there…and feel God’s loving presence… but thank God I also have a community here to celebrate Easter with other Filipino friends here in Jakarta.

i love this one esp with all the photos.. (as I am someone who loves to take and share pictures) my friends can definitely attest to that.. = )

And yes, I try my best to be a sponge instead of a rock… declaring that God will continue to bless me, my family, friends, and everyone else… God really loves us all!!!

    Happy Easter!!!

But after reading your article and seeing the pictures, ive felt, i was been there!

  7. Hi Bro. Bo,

Even if I coudn’t join the Kerygma Feast because I’m a thousand miles away (I’m in Qatar), I’m still blessed because I can still receive God’s blessings thru the internet. I would say, that I’m already acting like a sponge because no matter how difficult life is, still I can find God’s goodness thru the people around me, and be thankful everytime.

    God bless..

    Onil

  8. Good day! I feel down coz I wasn’t able to attend. I got the venue wrong. I explored MOA thinking the venue is at the activity center so I just went home around 10:30 am. I regretted not asking around. Sad :( Thanks for sharing this article and also the photos. Kahit papaano nakita ko ang event. Sayang talaga, but I know there will be other opportunities.

    God bless.

  9. I missed the event coz i served in our parish. Nevertheless i asked my mom to attend and she was blessed! She was one of the early birdies and shared so many insights when she came home. Up to this moment she keeps on talking about the sponge and blessings…

  10. Good day!

Good guys, I’m the one who plans to be there at SMX but unfortunately I haven’t been there due to the problem of my auntie’s vehicle. It is a regret turning my time into something else that I miss the talk needed for my “stumbling blocks turning into stepping stones”. I wish to overcome those blocks and attend the next talk sponge-absorbing all the blessings.

    Best personal regards,

Please pray for him to recover physically and for spiritual healing
    Thanks so much

  16. Hi Bro. Bo!

I am really thankful because after a year of planning to attend The Feast, it finally came into fruition yesterday. I heard God’s message with the ears of my heart and I knew that yesterday God really called me to be in the Grand Easter Feast and receive his miracles. I really felt replenished, refreshed, and enriched…

I am also thankful to God because I got the courage to step into the line during your book signing…I was already on the first floor of SMX when I said to myself, “oh, what the heck! I don’t want to miss another opportunity in my life!”

Even though I did not have the money to buy your new book yet (and bringing my copy of Your Past Does Not Define Your Future did not cross my mind), I really just want to say my sincerest and heartfelt gratitude to you personally. I actually have a prepared speech made while waiting in line, but it all went out the window when it was finally my turn. Hahaha…But praise God because I was able to at least say “thank you” to you personally. Thank you for responding so warmly. I’ll never forget it.

Here is what I intended to say to you, by the way:

“Bro. Bo, thank you very much for sharing your life story with us. You are really God-sent. Your book (Your Past Does Not Define Your Future) has been, and still is, my constant companion on my journey towards healing. Thank you for making me feel that I am not alone and that there is hope for me to change and be fully healed. Thank you so much Bro. Bo for answering God’s call. I know you’ll touch even more lives and I’ll be praying for you and your ministries. God bless po.”

They truly help lonely souls.

    hi bro Bo,

  27. Hey Bo! Oh, yesterday was just beautiful.

You know, I went there with my mom, dad and two cousins but since we’re all the way from Laguna and came in just a few minutes before the Holy Mass started, the seats we got are on the far left side of the place already.

What we did was sit on the center aisle during the worship and your talk, just to feel even more festive. Good thing no one shooed us away. And the people there are amazing, they just allowed us to sit beside their chairs on the aisles. See, we even made friends!

We cried, we laughed, we danced, jumped, shouted, and sang our lungs and hearts out to God.

    All glory be to God.

    Sam

  28. We were there, we were there! A dozen of us from Singles for Christ South A. And we were VERY VERY INSPIRED. The testimonies were AMAZING. The talk was very touching, specially the sponge the the “odd puzzle” and we were very excited to share that talk to the world. Thanks, brother Bo. Thank you for your selflessness to help us in so many ways. Keep it up and God bless!

  38. I totally agree with your message. I just want to share my holy week experience too. I hope you get to read this. I already made a note about this in my facebook account but i think i need to share it here too.

It actually started a month prior to holy week. I work in a very well respected government institution. However, like other government systems, there is still internal politics at work. I got bypassed by another staff from a promotion i think and other co-worker thinks I truly deserved. I felt tortured thinking about the whole thing for two weeks. What’s so horrible about it was, the favored person used to be my friend (past tense since we are no longer on speaking terms now unless it involves work). A week after that, we had our planning conference in Tagaytay. As part of the Secretariat of the office, we did all the preparations. But then, most of the responsibilities fell on my shoulders since I am a senior staff and i have doing these conferences for five years already. that was the most tiresome weekend i ever had; double tiredness since my heart was really not into it because i was still sore from the promotion issue thing. And to top it all off, when we got back to Manila in the eve of Saturday, I was fully exhausted and decided to eat sinner at a fast food chain near our office. I was with my fiance. I placed my hand bag at the vacant seat beside me and we ate dinner…until I noticed my hand bag already missing. I felt shocked and panic, mainly because my bag not only contains all my IDs, ATM, Credit Cards and 2 cellphones but also what was left of the cash advance i made from the office to finance our expenses for the conference…and it was a lot of money which i was responsible for that should be returned to the office.

I was very frustrated and depressed afterwards. I cried for two straight days for all that has happened. They came in threes. After that unfortunate weekend was holy week already. During my reflection time, I figured something important. I finally understood God’s message. I was reminded by the holy week activities that God fought so hard to show us how much He loves us, even dying on the cross to save our lives. And it dawned on me, that maybe the circumstances that happened in my life was my opportunity to show God that I would also fight to love Him even more notwithstanding the bad things I was encountering.

And I am still fighting each day to reconstruct everythigng I lost. And with each day, I feel God’s presence guiding me and sending me help as I go along my way. I entitled my facebook note “Fighting to Love God More”. I felt it was fitting. And I do love Him more each day, I am glad He gave this opportunity to show Him that.

Hope this story will bless others like the way it has touched my friends in FB! Godbless!

  39. Congrats! Just looking at the pictures… wow!… superblessed ako… I’m going to get copies of your new book and send it to my sisters in Vancouver, Canada. Thank you, Bo. Congrats sa mother mo… at salamat sa mom mo… kung wala siya… wala kaming Bro. Bo. You are blessed!

    To God Be the Glory

  56. A blessed Easter Wednesday!

I was there at the Grand Feast! It was my first time to attend a gathering that big! I was there alone, and I came late at around 10:30 am. The hall was really filled with so many people in white. It was a majestic sight. I personally felt maybe, somehow this is what heaven looks like.

The testimonies were really a proclamation of GOD’s love. I was so glad to see all the Feast Builders in person especially those that I listen to over Radio Veritas. They have great voices and sings so well!

The highlight for me was when Brother Bo was called up on stage. I was so excited because it was my first time to see hin in person. I had been listening to his talks over Gabay, and reading his books and articles at Kyrirma and Didache. Now, finally i see him in person.

I am so enlightened! Now, I am resolved to be a sponge, always ready to absorb all GOD’s blessing around me and to be squeezed to share the blessings as well. And again I came to thank GOD for all the Odd pieces of my life because some of them at this very point of time became channels of blessing into my life!

I bought the book, and some Kyrigma magazines. On my way out I saw a long line for the autograph session. There I saw Brother Bo, just an arm stretch away! After staring at him after a minute or so, off I went to align myself but seeing lots of people, I somehow felt that signing those books would also be tiresome! So i just felt contented, I know I will have the opportunity to have my books autographed by Bro. Bo.

I was there alone. I was simply standing at the back of the center part of the hall facing the stage along w/ some families and other attendees. Now here’s the silly part, when Bro. Bo was telling us to hug, hold the hand, bless and talk to the people beside us, I just found myself hugging, touching, talking, and smiling at people i don’t know. I was just glad that the people at my sides were responding and accommodating me even if I was just there alone w/o any company at all. Somehow I felt the importance of having family and friends when attending the feast not only that I have people readily available for hugging but to have the opportunity to make them feel I love them. You see, I grew to a family that’s not so expressive and open. We are still learning to be appreciative and expressive in our love to one another.

I attended the QC Feat at Bureau of Soil once only after the typhoon Ondoy, and I felt so irresponsible for having not attended it anymore. I was not even responding to the text invitations of Bro. Eng. I saw him there. I was glad. Surely, I will be at the QC Feast this Sunday.

Happy Easter everyone!! GOD bless us all! Sorry for this short message, I hope you’re time is not wasted in reading it!

    Truly;
    Karen

  57. Bro. Bo,

  59. hi bro
, even if am here in davao city i felt im one of the participants on that big day . its a blisssful day for all of us. because I feel GOD is always with us all the way. thnk you r, for sharing those big moments with GOD.

  60. Very inspiring to read the succes of the gathering in Asia mall ,Christian community in the Philippines are truly bless, people responded well by attending a greater number present in that event, their thirsty with Gods love and care and so God reveals for those who knock is door and for those who are willing to receive Gods gifts and reward. He gathers his flocks to unite and to lead others who lost their way and bring back to his loving care.I am very delighted i found this website thru Facebook,im a fan of Bro.Bo back in 1995.but eversince i left Phil and work here in Europe sadly i lost the connection.

  61. this is my first time to write a comment on one of your blog..i read some of your books and they helped me to understand myself more through the inspiring stories you share..,i realized that God never ever close His eyes and never got tired to look at me wherever i may be. thank you for being a messenger of God’s love…Godbless us!

  62. I like so much your article about being a sponge absorbing God’s blessing. I resolve to be a sponge of good things every day to practise to receive God’s blessing. Thank you, Bo for always inspiring me. May God shower you and your family His abundant blessings.

  63. Be a stone or a sponge?
    Be a sponge!!
Tanks Bo I will always remember that especially during hard times.
Hope to be able to hear you soon at The Feast.

  64. I believe that a water jug would be more appropriate than sponge!

Why? Because a water jug is receptacle where in you can use - in taking water (receiving blessings) and giving out water (sharing your blessings).

    Remember -

It is better to give than to receive (Good Book).
However, it also not good that you are always in the receiving or giving end!
Learn how and when to give and to take!

    Shalom!

    NR

  65. Well brother bo, you are blessed, you have got good connection with the god, you asked for 6000 people and god provide you with more than expected in your flocks… this is a miracle a true blessing…. you should share your secret more often with us, so that we can benefit from god blessing too… thank you for sharing your story.

  66. Hi Bro. Bo,

My name is Nikki an attandee of FEAST BA in Marilao and somtimes in PICC (2nd session). With my father, Jomar, being one of the pastoral heads in FEAST BA and my mother, Farina, Kids Ministry Head in the same FEAST, our whole family has always been involved in all the important events of the FEAST including ths Grand Kerygma Conference and recetly the Grand Easter Feast. And it is very unsurprising because you have never failed to bless and inspire us in every single event no matter how simple it is.

I always feel so full and blessed whenever i listen to your talks or the talks of the other builders. Specially during the time when I was going througha lot due to an early pregnancy. The FEAST was the pillar of our family’s faith in God and love for each other. It helped us to understand things more through God’s eyes and know that everything that happens is all in accordance with the Divine Plan.

I just hope you always continue to bless people. Because I can honestly say that the FEAST helps a lot of people, in any way possible.

I LOVE the Lord more because of this community. And it strengthens my faith and the values of our family has never been this intact.

I THANK YOU for being our leader in this and may God Bless you forever! May God bless us all forever.

  67. Thank you Bro Bo!
    You’re God’s blessing yourself!

  68. Thank you so much Bro Bo. This site is indeed a source on inspiration and motivation.
